Auction Find??

I'm on the distribution list for one of the auction houses in St Augustine. They send a link to the various "stuff" being offered..

Spotted this gem,, I'm not going but I'd be interested in finding out who is the owner of these class A's??

I'm guessing he was 1st CAV (VN & ROK) chopper pilot?

link to website

He must have had a very honorable and exciting career..

Assuming the mess dress, buried under the blues, goes to the same guy he is/was a COL. I know that some guys in Vietnam did tours as advisors to ARVN infantry units, and earned CIBs, regardless of what their branch was.

There is something weird about the picture. In the second, the ribbons are shown on the right , the picture perspective is from the head to toe, which places them on the right, then the other, frontal picture shows left (proper) placement.

Look at the printing on the box. The image has been flipped.

Flipped. Also, whoever put it together probably didn't know that there is a proper order to the racks.

I don't fly jets. I tell jets where to fly.

I zoomed in, cropped, then flipped the pic.

The order is not correct,, and it's a custom embroidered patch, not the typical pin rack.

Here is the cropped Blues..

The order looks ok to me for a Vietnam/post Vietnam era rack. What don't you like about it?

PH should be after BS and before AM, assuming right to left order.

PH

He's right - the Purple Heart is definitely out of place.

Pre 1985 it was lower in precedence... I'll post these since the Army Institute of Heraldry web site appears to be broken. It actually looks like it is placed correctly for a uniform predating the change.

Quote:
The Purple Heart Medal was originally last in precedence of all other personal decorations, but was elevated in 1985 by an act of Congress to a position just behind the Bronze Star.

Quote:
The Senate approved an amendment to the 1985 Defense Authorization Bill on June 13, 1985, which changed the precedence from immediately above the Good Conduct Medal to immediately above the Meritorious Service Medals. Public Law 99-145 authorized the award for wounds received as a result of friendly fire. Public Law 104-106 expanded the eligibility date, authorizing award of the Purple Heart to a former prisoner of war who was wounded before April 25, 1962. The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1998 (Public Law 105-85) changed the criteria to delete authorization for award of the Purple Heart to any civilian national of the United States while serving under competent authority in any capacity with the Armed Forces. This change was effective May 18, 1998.

No idea. Maybe you had the uniform torn down and put it back together after the change? ETA: Maybe for a funeral, wedding or other ceremony?
