There was a large stolen pile of propane tanks announced on the news..
While doing homework, I found these pictures and a vid
Is the improvised motor method remotely viable??

With the mass purchase of prepaid cell phones from the Wal-marts in the same area, IMO, that's not really feasible.
Something like that looks as if it takes awhile to set up and fire, and I'm sure the range of the projectile isn't that far ... maybe 2 to 3 miles.
What I'm more concerned about with above purchases is, some Daesh supporter/sympathizer rigging up a these propane tanks with the phones and some wires and placing them around multiple populated areas. Probably not rigged to go boom, but they would drain local recourses, with an occasional one going boom.
I wonder what type of explosives where discovered in that park not far from St. Louis back in October?

With the amount of security cameras that Walmart has there has to be lots of footage of the purchasers. I am sure that DHS is right on top of all of this. I probably should have used a pink font there.

Looks similar to some of the projects I built when I was a kid.
What are they putting in the tanks in the first picture?

Propane tank mortars (rampas) were used successfully in El Salvador too. You don't need much range, 3-400M is usually sufficient standoff for most softer targets.

For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

Are they an incendiary round? With that much volume in the propane tank, it would seem to be wasted and heavy if it was all HE and muy peligrosa if it was a chem like WP....

^^^^^ They FARC / ELN usually open them (let out the propane) and then fill them with black powder and rocks, nails, etc or fill them with gas and dishsoap although they have been known to put hydrochloric acid in some of them. They steal different sizes and use some as the launch tube and some as the explosive device.
Not very effective past 300 or 400 meters but they can steal and make a shitload of them for little cost.
Propane tanks are a controlled item in Colombia now. Can't buy them without a permit.
Poor man's mortar.

No doubt you remember at Bragg, in front of the companies for 1/7 SFG they used to have a launcher as a war trophy. I don't know the story behind it, but it sure gave you an idea that you can make a weapon out of anything.

I was not sure there was another incident or the initial was reported incorrectly.
Two of the tank theft locations, Independence and Lees Summit are adjacent cities. Independence the home of Harry S Truman was once christened Meth capital of the World and may very well still retain the title.
The majority of Mosques are just East of Independence in Kansas City, MO and there is one just East of Lee Summit towards Grandview.
The Highway Shooter and Muslim convert Mohammad Pedro Whitaker who terrorized the I470/I435/71HWY interchange back in 2014 is from the Kansas City, MO area. The media has never reported what happened to him, for all we know he was released and walking free.

Could be drug related, could be Jihad related, could be someone looking for a free heating fuel source o maybe some is having a hell of a tail gate party.
