"Two Special Forces soldiers involved in a historic raid on a North Vietnamese prison camp will be honored today, the 45th anniversary of the operation.

Retired Col. Elliot "Bud" P. Sydnor Jr., who was ground forces commander for the famed Son Tay Raid, and retired Maj. Thomas E. Powell will be inducted as Distinguished Members of the Special Forces Regiment....."

21 Nov 1970 - 45 years ago on this date and another inspirational chapter was added to the history of the 1st SF Regiment.

When I got to the 5th Group in June 1971, Billy K Moore and Jake Jakovenko were there. among others. They were fun to watch. I met Udo Walther(RIP) later on in the 46th Co. He was down for anything...
