Walmart to stop selling MSR's

I have never purchased a firearm or ammo at Walmart, but I wonder what implications this will have down the road.

Walmart’s Senior Director for Corporate Communications Kory Lundberg has confirmed rumors that Walmart will no longer be stocking modern sports rifles such as the AR-15, nor semi-automatic shotguns with a magazine capacity of seven or more rounds.

Lundberg states that politics played no role in the chain’s decision to stop selling the rifles and shotguns, and that it was purely a business decision that drove an inventory correction.

I've always disliked Walmart but now I have a reason never to step foot in one again. If enough people vote with their feet I wonder how fast their convictions will change.

The JH15-franchised relocation/re-education camp here lost that piece of their business awhile ago when the local enterprising head of the sporting/camping piece of a rather well-run ACE Hardware put in an inventory (and expertise to go with it) that would make any big city FFL blush. Not that they were doing anything notable for business anyway, other than selling Zebcos & fishing licenses - if you could actually find someone to wait on you.

Have minimal reason to even set foot on the "camp" property; my bak-sheesh goes to businesses that want mine & demonstrate it. "Local" brick & mortar is coming back, like really good cotton Hawaiian shirts. The Benton, AR honeymoon is long over.

I really hope you are right, and not strictly speaking only of LGS.

While I enjoy walking in a Cabellas or a Gander Mountain and gawking at the gargantuan inventory of anything I could possibly think of, my dollars wind up going to Amazon.

Amazon store fronts are virtual, the physical store itself could very well be some dudes grandmas basement. I neither know nor care. Amazon gets its cut, GratefullCitizen gets his cut the grandmas basement dude gets his cut, Uncle Sam gets fucked out of his cut and I'm ok with that.

I like to think (maybe naively) that Trump (if elected) may actually encourage a growth or rebirth of small businesses. I'm ok with that as well.

Why? You hate low prices too? Or is it shopping with the poor you don't like?

I'd stop selling those type guns too if something sold better or they were not selling well. And, there's huge competition in the AR market.

I don't believe it's not a PC move on Walmarts part. I'm sure it is and I can see why. The fist asshole that walks into a crowded place with a Walmart AR is going to put a real hurt on that company.

We can hope, but the big boys will likely lobby for new codes and laws that make buying local or growing your own a major pain in the ass.

Not speaking country-wide here; can't. Just referring to my AO. It's slow coming, but recognizable. I do shop where I need to & where the best "deal" is; sometimes that's online (and Amazon's biz model is a thing to behold), sometimes in a city 40 miles away if it's something I want to especially put hands on first. The Walmart here just happens to be run like dogshit. I can appreciate they have business decisions to make; I can choose with my wallet and some other things factored in and they can do what they feel they need to do.

Neither, the few times I stopped to buy ammo from a local Walmart I've been put off by the lazy I could help you but I don't want to attitude from their associates. I'd rather spend a little more money and be treated by the retailer like they actually value my business.

I'm blessed with a plethora of big box stores and no less than 22 FFLs within 6 miles of my location.

Half of the six Walmarts that are within 12 miles are worthless or do not carry ammo. One does and they have a dedicated sporting goods crew during the week. Half of the gun stores partially support The Second (ie, they support their right to openly carry and your right to buy as long as your unarmed to do so). I don't patronize those, nor the ones that jacked up prices. There are a few that get it and therefore my business.

Bulk ammo is now bought online (that UPS driver is gone) and specialty items are online as well. Dvor.com and AmazonSmile.com (SOWF).

If enough people bought the items...Perhaps Wally World would not be in the process of dropping them from inventory. IMO, very few Walmart shoppers give a hoot about their decision.

Or perhaps they've forgotten their roots and would rather turn their backs on their customers than to have to go through yet another lawsuit from the anti-gun nuts. They can do whatever they feel is best for their business just as I am free to withhold my business from them if I choose. I think my life will go on just fine if I never step foot in a wallyworld again, and I doubt the business they will miss getting from me is significant enough for them to even notice.
