Right after I retired I became an L2I SOF Medical Analyst for CALL at Fort Leavenworth. My wife, still active duty, was stationed there. One of the things all realized was the armor units weren't firing the tables, artillerymen and even CAG were being used as infantry, the 82nd weren't performing their airborne mission, SF were only engaged in DA and SR, etc.

A study was done by CALL and the CAL and the conclusion was it would take a minimum of five years of sharply curtailed deployments for all Army units to get back to performing their METL and become fully operational. This is where the term "broken Army" came from.

Hopefully we won't need to engage in mid to high-intensity warfare until the year 2020.
