Palm Pilots

Can anybody recommend some good (free) software or just plain interesting stuff for a palm pilot, preferably military or aviation?

I've got Adobe Acrobat on it now, it's great being able to read a book without having the bulk of the actual book. Got some field manuals on there too.

Good stuff. I feel all techno.

How problematic is page width with pdf, scrolling back and forth?

It adjusts the pdf to fit. You need to tap and hold on the pictures to expand them, but the writing is very readable. You need to scroll a bit, but it's not a hassle.

I like Flight Checker, has every flight from every airport in the world for the next 3 months, right on my Palm. Only 12.72 British Pounds for a year of updates. Has saved me from some very screwed up flights expedia and others would have sent me on, now I just check it and go straight to the airline for the tickets. Ive checked that against expedia each time and have saved a fortune buying direct and countless hours of transfers. Well worth the money if you travel at all.

I also like Documents To Go. The standard edition converts Word and Excel to Palm, and can create Word and Excel documents on the Palm. Very handy, 3 upgrade versions that can do even more, but the standard is a bargain at $29. Works very well.

I have recall - an alert roster software.

There's a whole bunch of med stuff

pass phrase for generating passwords

Licesne plate for annotating suspicious vehicles

S Morse for practicing code

Liquid ruler a metric conversion

There aren't a lot of military ones for the public or free.

There's some pretty good LEO ones, but they cost.

I think I've downloaded the licence plate one, but it's not yet installed.

There's a better license plate one, it alerts you if you've seen the same plate within a time you specify. I don't remember the name of it and it wasn't free, but it wasn't much either.

They have all kinds of stuff including some freeware/shareware as well as full service stuff. They also have sites for all major OS's.

I believe that there is a version of the Microsoft Reader application for it....oh, wait. Maybe that is for handhelds running the chopped versions of XP.

I use Microsoft Reader on my Wintel laptop to read .lit files, books, which are electronic versions of the books that I have in boxes in various places. Sure is convenient.

I am planning on purchasing a handheld just for this reason alone, so that I can read them more conveniently.

Al, I have a ton of Niven and Heinlein, and Azimov and Clarke. Lots of other stuff. Classics. Dashiell Hammet, Borges, Marquez, Herman Hesse, Kafka, everything.

One of the killer apps, I think.
