Back in the day

Back in the Day we used issued American Express Cards.

Yes, it was for travel expenses only. Yes, folks used them for other expenses.

The bill came monthly and you were expected to pay in full. Little hard when you were on a multi month deployment and hadn't settled with finance yet.

Use your private card and the bill will end up at the house. I guess some didn't want that.

How about back in the day, before AE, when we had Diners Club cards.

Hell we had guys get UCMJ just for having a bar time on their cards. Not for bars or clubs. No nit Titie bars either. But a restaurant that happens to have a bar. That's okay.

Oddly enough I have seen our agency try and give one of our Chaplains a couple of days on the beach because his card had a charge to a brewery that had a restaurant. Problem was he didn't drink, but the bean counters felt affronted seeing brewery on his statement. Before DHS's creation I saw tons of idiots withdrawing cash advances at gentlemen's clubs with no mention ever made. Those were much easier times I must admit.

When FEMA handed out EBT cards to the "unfortunates" (read: unprepared), they were buying expensive suits, diamond earrings, $300 handbags, and large plasma screen televisions, breast implants, going to strip clubs, buying champagne, etc.

How so, less for our boys in green?

Yeah, Diners Club, what a joke, hardly anyplace took'em.. AE, not to bad, but as Pete said, had to pay it monthly, kinda hard to do when you're not home.

And Guy, yup..BTDT, lost a Harley and a nice S&W 686 .357 to the "we pay to play" days in 3d GP...

Hey, I had to feed a wife and three kids...well, I probably really didn't have to, but I didin't want to hear any crap when I got home...lol
