12/11/2014 - NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Approximately 100 aircraft, including more than 50 C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs, teamed up with the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to execute the U.S. Air Force Weapons School's Joint Forcible Entry Exercise 14B Dec. 6 on the Nevada Test and Training Range.

Before more than 100 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne could descend onto the exercise's objective area on the NTTR to gain control of the land, Weapons School students were responsible for seizing control of the air from the "enemy" forces of the 64th Aggressor Squadron. Overall, more than 1,000 personnel, including six general officers, and $8.7 billion in assets were involved in the exercise.

So now it takes 1 general to command every 166 troops?

That is a small amount of paratroopers for such a large scale AF exercise.

That is all of the force they will be able to support with CAS once the A-10s are gone.

Towards the bottom of the above linked article are some pictures of static line jumpers under canopy. What kind of parachute is that? Another picture shows both rounds and squares - are they jumpers and do they mix parachutes types in sticks? The very last picture shows a static line jumpmaster with the new (to me) reserve, an ALICE ruck, and weapons container - I thought the ALICE was gone and how prevalent is the weapons carriers use today?

T-11 parachute with the T-11R reserve. This is the odd square pillow looking parachute in the photos. It is the replacement for the T-10.

I believe that the MC-5 Static Line/Free-Fall Ram Air Parachute System (SL/FF RAPS) is the static line square you see.

Gear looks typical for the 82nd.

The use of a ram-air canopy and static line, sounds kinda squirrelly.

Is that combo use very often?

That is how the Colonel from 18th Airborne Corps killed himself recently.

You have a lot more airspeed to hurt yourself while you learn how to flare and land, but IMHO, it has turned into a VIP rig.

Pic #15 from the 18th AF article.

"U.S Army Long Range Surveillance paratroopers and a U.S. Air Force Joint Terminal Attack Controller preform a High Altitude Low Opening jump during the U.S. Air Force Weapons School's Joint Forcible Entry Exercise 14B over the Nevada Test and Training Range Dec. 4, 2014."
