Officer drops rampaging suspect @ 100yds
Quote:
Holding the reins of two horses with one hand, Austin Police Sgt. Adam Johnson raised his service pistol and fired a bullseye into the target some 312 feet away.
Down went Larry McQuilliams, and so ended his rampage through the streets of the Texas capital, where he’d fired more than 100 rounds from his AK-47 and .22-caliber rifles at buildings. The shot, from Johnson’s Smith & Wesson M&P .40 pistol, hit McQuilliams square in the chest and made the 15-year-veteran the toast of gun enthusiasts around the country.

Remainder of story here.
For any real pistoleros that's not an intimidating distance at all.
As my last (true) Commander said: "Shut up and train."

One time at the range I shot a tight group LOL. 100yds with a service pistol?! I didn't know that was a possibility.

It's absolutely possible and at distances greater than that (although a pistol has less terminal performance out there). Get familiar with your gun and practice; it's only in the realm of the impossible if you've never done it.
Good for him; apparently saved some taxpayers a bill also.

Never done it with a pistol, but I remember a time on a squad attack range with MP5's, a truckload of 9mm to expend and targets set on rebound. It was amazing after a little practice the ranges we were getting hits at.

At night, one handed hold? That takes a real clear eye and a steady hand.
And a bit of luck.
Better man than I.

Not an amazing shot but for a LEO, a great shot. The drop for a .40 at 100m is maybe 2 inches. +P ammo might be less.
The amazing part is that he was holding onto two horses at the time and made the shot with one hand. I'd buy him a beer!

I have to wonder what kind of a shot qualifies as amazing for TS.

Probably a shot of fine aged single malt... Just a guess.

I said it was a great shot if he did one handed while holding two horses!!!
He might actually be a great shot and why he took the shot in the first place. Because we all know had he missed and hit another individual the media would have hung him for shooting beyond his capability, what's that now like 21 feet?
If I can find three horses that will allow me to take a shot while I'm holding them I'll make a video of the same shot. How about I hold onto three raging nuns and make a one handed shot at 125 meters? Would that be amazing?

YES!
Nuns aren't to be trifled with. Especially when they are equipped with rulers.

He is a good dude too. Comes by and hangs out at the station with us often. I arrived at work a few hours after it happened. They spent a day and a half investigating. We are all thankful he wanted to shoot buildings and not people or didn't wait and ambush the firefighters coming to put out his fire at the Mexican Consulate. Good shot Adam.
