That seals it, I'm now a fan of the barrett rifles

As if I wasn't before.

Check This out.

That's it, as soon as I can afford a fifty, the barrett is the one for me. Gotta love a businessperson willing to stand up for our rights even at the possibilty of losing a lucrative contract.

Its a good start but until Kimber, Glock, Sig, H&K , S&W, Colt, Paraord, Beretta, Springfield, Rock River, Bushmaster, Oly arms, etc follow suit and boycott the LEO's in anti gun states it is more symbolic than anything else. I wish the rest of the industry had a backbone like Ronnie Barrett but too many companies are too consumed with their bottom line to follow suit. It's a shame because they are helping agnecies in states that wish to destroy their buisness. None of these companies can survive on LEO business only. Without the private sector each one would be out of business in a heart beat.

Air.177,

I think that is a great letter and should be made public for debate with the anti gun people. I have to agree with rubberneck's assesment; The LE market while large will not have the turnover rate on weapons required to keep the companies listed in business. Unless of course they decide to upgrade every three years or so at minimal cost (which would send respective city, state, county governments into a foam laced rage anyway regarding budgets). So yes without the private sector the manufacturers are DOA. I'm inclined to believe CEO's like Ronnie Barrett are waiting out the political argument in the media from liberal, anti gun back toward conservative, pro gun, home defence, hunting etc.

Believe it or not the gun companies don't make much if anything on sales to governmental agencies. Kimber sells the TLE to the LAPD for below cost because of the free publicity they get for it. They just tack the cost onto the civilian version. Sigs Homeland defense contract has them selling the guns $300 (IIRC) cheaper than you or I could get our hands on them for.

Thumbs up

Great stuff, thanks for the info AM I have not received my copy yet!

rubberneck, we could not get them at below cost anyway since government buys are bulk and the best we (as officers) can hope for is to buy the weapon you carried prior to the changeover at cost. Sucks, but what are you going to do?

I support Mr. Barret more than 110%. I do support our police forces, but when the police take a side against the public you have to draw a line at some point. Especially in states like California where an ignorant populous, and police and legislative bodies who want to institute a police state are proactively driving for absolute gun control. Unfortunately Mr. Barret's statement will have little effect on these ideologs, and the only way that these organizations will see the light is when it starts hurting their A. pocketbooks, and B. operational capacity. Of course the response will simply be to increase ticketing quotas and to further restrict your 2nd amendment rights.
if the gun companies do not have the intestinal fortitude to completely arrest sales to these organizations, then the least they can do is stop giving these companies free-bates for their purchases. A political stand is the only economically and constitutionally viable option.

Ok I am calling BS here. This kind of statement is the same as saying all union members are democrats. The departments in any state have no desire to institute a "police state". They are simply bound by the laws of that state and enforce those laws to the best of their ability. Yes there are potentates in PD's that use cops in photo ops to further their own agendas (I've seen it used as recently as the last election), but that does not mean that cops in general want to restrict the 2nd amendment! Moreover to generalize police officers as wards of the anti gun crowd funding their agenda with tickets is not only ridiculous but a general statement without research or forethought.

Please enlighten me if I have misconstrued your statement.

I agree with you my intent was to not classify "the police" but more "certain police officials" Most police think these policies are ridiculous. I mean the statistics are self evident, not a single violent crime has been committed with any of these weapons that have been purchased and registered legally.

Specifically the elected officials in LA and SF. Its even more endemic of the City councils and various growth/safety commissions.

In Ventura we have a slightly different problems where the Law Enforcement and Representatives are pro 2nd amendment but somehow we have city and county clerks and what not who are ultra restrictive. Most the population where I am from is very pro-gun, so the only thing I can pin it on is that most of the population is unaware come election time.

As to the banning of large caliber firearms signed into law this year by Arnold, i believe it is an executive order, so it can be rescinded at any time by a penstroke from the Governor. My family is good friends w/ a few elected officials so I am sure I'll see them come Christmas time, and I'll throw is a few comments sideways and see if I can illuminate them on a few issues.

Well my .002 of a centavo...

I think that Mr. Berrett should work on the weapon himself. Then in return turn and charge the LAPD or the City of LA a HUGE SUM of money for working on the weapon...

I think that Mr. Barrett's time should be that of a very skilled worker and CEO of a very large and successful company such as his. Saying some where in the range of at least a million dollars an hour. He works a 100 hrs on this weapon. 100 million bill for one weapon. Which of course only he knows how to work on being HIS WEAPON...

Then if LA does not pay, he can then donate his time. He can get a huge tax right off for his time and effort...

Old man BERGER from BERGER Yachts used to do this all the time. I'll give you the yacht you want. But it will cost you for the yacht you need.

Hit people in the pocket book... They listen.

RAT OUT!!!

Had to wait to get home to read the article, as websense that runs on my Blackberry browser blocks gun sites.

Anyway, I guess I need to find a Barrett product that is legal in this city so I can buy it. Suggestions?

I'd throw that thing away - it's useless.
