The Marines are coming, the Marines are coming

Artillery training on Fort Bragg begins Oct. 12

http://www.fayobserver.com/military/...b13bb12de.html

"Neighbors to Fort Bragg can expect some window-rattling booms through the rest of the month.

Marines from Camp Lejeune will be on post between Oct. 12 and 30 for their bi-annual artillery training.

The 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division will fire "significant amounts of 155 mm ammunition, which can be associated with loud explosions and reverberation upon detonation," according to Fort Bragg officials...."

Actually folks, the Marines bring their artillery up from Camp Lejeune quite regular.

Does rattle the windows a bit.

Yeah, and it transfers the annoyance from Onslow Country, which is where the Marines spend their money, to Cumberland and Moore, which already has to deal with the Army artillery firing.

Why do the Marines seem to not be able to fire artillery on most Marine bases?

They sure do practice a lot over here at Camp Pendleton...and end up catching half the state on fire.

Over the years the Mrs. has gotten used to differentiating the sound signature of a 155 and will calmly observe, as the living room window flexes mightily, "Marines must be in town."
