That is one of the first things I noticed. More often than not, photographs from that period very seldom showed people of so many races and ages appearing to be so "happy." Even though that time in history was "hard", many of the photographs from then seemed as though the poses utilized always exhibited "depression" and "misery." It was nice to see some laughter that appears to be genuine and not necessarily staged.
