SA 18 cache possibly taken from syrian airfield

"It’s possible militants are trying to work around that limitation by using a homemade recharging system for one particular MANPADS variant. C.J. Chivers, of the New York Times, first reported the case of a Syrian rebel with the SA-7 outfitted with such a system."

It has been a very long time since I had the class, but, IIRC, there is a battery and a coolant tank for the seeker head.

If the coolant is expired or exhausted, the system cannot acquire targets, even with power.

I think the more modern systems actually have an expiration date coded into them to keep them from eventually falling into the wrong hands.

Regardless, you can bet ISIL is trying to figure out how to improve their ADA capability, right about now.
