U.A.E Special Forces Questions

Good morning everyone, as the title says I have a few questions about the U.A.E Special Forces. I have already done some research and generically put, they have received training from the various SF communities, us, the Brits and Aussies. The reason for my questions is that I am a candidate (possible employment) for an SME position (teaching COMMO) at the BN J6 level.

- My first question, have any of the QPs here or any of the support guys worked with these guys and what were your experiences? Actually training and working with these guys.

- Are they as professional (held to a standard) as the organizations I mentioned earlier?

The HR guy for the company here in the Springs has churched it up, but that's his job. I am just looking for other input from those of you that have BTDT, so that I can weigh my own decisions. I have been to Iraq, Jordan and Israel, the first two as a soldier and the latter as a civilian.

Thanks for any input y'all can give me. RATT31C

Well, last time I worked with them was when I was in the 5th, I think around 97 or so.

They have money, so, they had alot of new top of the line gear, radios, weapons and gun trucks (HMMWV's to boot) better than the trucks we had, and we were supposed to be "mounted" LOL

They were pretty professional, but reminded me of kids with a rich dad. Always showing up in their shiney new stuff, and with us with a .50 on a pole in the middle of a former cargo HMMWV...yup, the good 'ol days.

Can't tell ya anything about their S6 or ciber stuff, that was after my day...

Probably not much help, but that's my experience with them...

Thanks

Glebo,

The comment about the kids and rich dads is what I was looking for. Like I said in my original post I am just fishing for input to get me off the fence, whatever side I land on. Again thanks.

I spent 3 years there as a contractor, teaching at the SOS schoolhouse in Al Ain and the SOB schoolhouse in Abu Dhabi. They do church up the gig there and it generally does pay well. Although the cost of living is high. I left a couple years ago- at the time, the GAL jobs were preferred. The other side, which I was on, was the half westerner/half emirate owned companies.

You'll find that the UAE military guys are not that motivated, and very relaxed. The military advisor network is highly dominated by Brits and Aussies, however there was a shift beginning to happen when I left towards US doctrine due to our active forces working with them a bit more in the area. Might be a bit improved now.

Since you're thinking of working in the commo field, expect to be beating your head against the wall at times. They are very hesitant to actually sign out and use their operational equipment. Most of the time, the first time their troops actually see nice gear is before they are boarding the plane to go hand our Korans in Afghanistan.

Bottom line, if you can do the following things:

- Keep an open mind
- Be tolerant of foreign cultures (chill with the f-bombs and chewing tobacco)
- Take getting absolutely nothing accomplished 60% of your days

You'll be living on a decent salary in a decent villa living a decent lifestyle.
