White flags planted on Brooklyn Bridge, American flags missing as mystery deepens
The vandals apparently used aluminum pans — ‘like the ones you cook turkeys with’ — to cover the bridge’s lights and their tracks, a police source said. Cops say they want to interview five people caught on video just after 3 a.m. The motivation for the stunt is still unknown.

Two high-flying American flags were surreptitiously swiped from atop the Brooklyn Bridge and mysteriously replaced early Tuesday with a pair of white banners, police said.
The substitute flags were flying by sunrise from atop the 273-foot towers on the venerable bridge despite round-the-clock NYPD security on the span.
What remained unclear hours later: who was responsible, what happened to the missing American flags — and how the thieves scaled the towers without drawing any attention.
“There’s no particular nexus to terrorism or politics,” said John Miller, the NYPD’s anti-terrorism czar. “It might be some kind of art project or statement. But we are not sure what that statement is.”

So NYC makes an excuse. The Feds are silent. If you can do this is a bomb impossible? The bridge is within walking distance of NYPD Hq. there are more security agencies and police within 5 miles of the bridge than there are idiots in Congress. It's a close contest but I think I'm correct.

That was my thought too.
From an AP source, the white flags were American Flags with the red and blue colors bleached out. Wonder if that is some sort of message too?

The the white flags were 11' x 20', not something you can buy at your local Home Depot.

I think the point was the evasion of not insignificant nor inexpensive security - not necessarily the actual placement of the flag or potentially an explosive device.

From what I understand, security isn't there guarding the towers which are protected by locked gates, and at 275' aren't something that would be of value to terrorists, IMO.
