Inside The Army’s Spectacular Hidden Treasure Room

Didn't know about this. Pretty interesting. Amazing collection.
Graphics heavy, slow loading.

However, there are major fundraising hurdles to jump before the museum can be built. The foundation’s president recently told the Washington Post that it has raised $76 million of the $175 million required for the museum and predicts the museum could open in 2018. The plan is to build the museum at Fort Belvoir.

And don't forget the tonnes of Nazi artifacts still stored at Pueblo Army Depot.

The project to create a National Army Museum has been going on for 3 decades or so now. I hope it happens in my lifetime.

https://armyhistory.org/the-national...d-states-army/

As for the CMH's art work - most was done by what are called "combat artists" which are assigned to historical units to document activities. I have several large books of their art work - one is WW2 themed and has artwork from US, GB, AU, NZ, FR, GE, RU, and JA military artists, and the other is by a USMC combat artist who last served during RVN and GW1, and offers a history of the specialty and illustrations of their work. They are fascinating to peruse if you come across them.

One important thing the Buzzfeed article fails to mention is that the Army's art work stored at the CMH does go out on 'loan' to installations and museums for exhibitions or special commemorative events.

I use the CMH site quite often and here's a link to its combat art program.

Here's a good piece from a couple of year's ago on the USMC's program.
