RIP 1SG (RET) Dan Barney,
Gentlemen it is with great sadness to inform you that a great friend, mentor and just plain awesome human being has passed away yesterday afternoon at his home in Colorado Springs. The message below is from the family Chaplain:
Dear Sirs,
As we have been reporting with sadness but courage, retired 1SG Danford Barney V suffered a massive heart attack on Wednesday February 12. Despite heroic interventions from a host of medical professionals who knew him, and round-the-clock support from family and friends who loved him, Dan remained in intensive care and never regained consciousness.
Wednesday morning February 19th, Dan's family fulfilled his longstanding Advance Directives and brought him home. Some of the finest hospice and other medical professionals in this area assisted and made for a flawless transition. He died peacefully Wednesday afternoon in his own bed, surrounded by his loving family.
More information about a Celebration of Life and charitable donations in lieu of food or flowers will follow in the next days. The family is hoping to hold an informal gathering on a weekend soon so that Dan's diverse family, colleagues and friends can come together to share all he was, is and always will be to us.
The family is not currently able to accept visitors; please respect their privacy and confidentiality.
