Detroit in the dark

Detroit in the dark: How the city's streetlights went out and the plan to get them back on.

Glad I don't live in Detroit. Don't think I'd want to be a cop there either.

A prime example of how liberals/progressives/socialists run governments.... they use other peoples money until it runs out then they beg for more.

Detroit can find sympathy in the dictionary between shit, and syphilis!

The people of Detroit are getting the results of the corrupt governments they elected.

Sadly, they would probably do the same thing again today.

Not sadly - more like predictably.

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

Watch 'Hardcore Pawn'. After about 12 seconds you will realize why Detroit is a mess...

Detroit is trying to move in the right direction and, just as the state has done, they voted in a mayor with a lot of financial know-how and success. The new mayor also had to overcome racially-motivated voting patterns and was the first white mayor elected in 30 years.

A good summary article is here.

It will take time and a lot of work, but Detroit hopes it's moving in the right direction.
