Security Question
Have just taken on a new position in a small-medium size Hotel as EC and F&B Manager, along with a brand new GM, Sales, Front Office and Housekeeping Manager.
Since we all started four weeks ago, we have had 7 seperate thefts, resulting in two dozen flat screen's taken from rooms, our A/V equiptment from our banquet space, and just this past two days, theft in two rooms of guests, (ALL personal itens; clothes, watches, computers, etc... taken.)
Am told we have a Detective from Our local PD on the case....
Am also told that the former maintenence staff was fired for dishonesty, and were part of a mexican drug cartel.
None of this matters, exept, I was followed home two night ago. I am always aware of surroundings, and noticed a "thug" tailing me in my rural Country town from two miles out. (And wow, he looked serious.)
In any case, I did not go home but diverted my route. I did however feel that I was being sent a message.
What would you guys do???

Yes, and my estabishment is not a no-carry one. Thank you for the advice.
Thease robberies have taken place while I have been on duty, and my staff are now worried.
To me, a QP logic and two days are all that is needed to fix this.
Will keep posted.
Thank You!

Offer a cash reward for any staff member reporting a theft that pans out. Your staff will LOVE YOU and will start keeping their eyes out.

What type of security system does the hotel have?
What type of room acces do you use? Key/card. Is the card system able to be monitored?
What do you have for a security staff on site?
Is the cameras and room access system monitored live by your security person?
Entry and exit control with pass cards and cameras?
Whatype of background checks have been done on the staff?
These are a few things that need to be answered.
Is this hotel a 30 min bump and rub?

We have no security Bryan, and that is the problem.
The folks running the place have no clue how to secure, and I do mean no clue. It is why we have been hit multiple times, morning and night, consistently. My thought is, Well, when are they going to come after us?
Am not saying I am scared, am concerened!

We are open at this point, to me, and I am not even a security expert.

Ya might want to re-read B's question there, Holly.

Am a newly hired manager in my department at this hotel, just another employee, yes, but I would not work at an establishment that was pay by the hour.
As I am sure anyone who has met me knows.
I have a serious security conern here, and would not have posted this new thread otherwise.

I know. I just wanted to make sure that you knew that B was asking about the clientele...with a bit of humor thrown in. You'll get good advice, as you know.

No.
Entry and exit control with pass cards and cameras?
None, and yep...even now, only motion detector lights.

Game cam?
Just a humble forklift jokey's advice from a local lumber yard.
We have had similar issues with staff/guest thefts at our establishment. High dollar items placed in booster boxes* as well as several locations that are relatively isolated and great spot to square away stolen items on their person.
If you want to try a KISS approach we have had great success by discreetly placing a few personal game cameras in specific zones where we know theives will frequent (due to merchanidise and isolated location). I spent 50$ on a trail cam and informed only my GM of what i was up to. Sure as shootin' after a week we caught the ass-hats pulling these stunts and terminated the staff and reported the guests.(they were working together to stage merchadise and make off with them).
This may help in the short term but as others have suggested a more robust security system and/or protocols may serve your needs much better in the long run.
Stay safe, stay armed.
A.
* Booster box = concealing a high dollar item (power tools, laser levels, etc) in a cheaper item's box.

That's why I said it was a 30 min bump and rub not a 1 hr happy ending
Pepper spray key fob, tazer also might be good.
Who ever owns that place with no cameras is an idiot. Even if they were dummys that helps.
It is dirt cheap now of days to set up a basic camera system. Wireless ones are easy.........
