I'm keeping my eye on Yellowstone, which is about all one can do. We're pretty much screwed if that happens in our lifetime.

Now that is one big Caldera, it would be interesting to see the SAT movements on that one. As you said man is powerless against some forces of Nature.

I always enjoyed the stories of John Coulter, when he broke off of Lewis and Clark's expedition he was one of the first white men to see the sights of the Yellowstone, when he came out of the wilderness and tried to describe what he saw they believed he was crazy.

The thing about Iceland is the plates under it are moving outward, that is it's natural state. Hekla sounds ominous but was surprised the program didn't mention Vantajökull, it's the beast that lies under the largest Glacier and when it erupts it can send volumes of melted ice and water Southward that are greater than the flow of the amazon, that sight is truly frightening! Arial views indicate that flow and are incredibly beautiful even other worldly.

I thought the Nova link was excellent, that's the way the internet should be...

Bįršarbunga Volcano

The Bįršarbunga volcano under Vantajokull Glacier is near eruption . It remains to be seen just how large this event will be and whether it will be as disruptive to air travel as the last event. This volcano is under the North end of Europe's largest glacier, the resulting jökulhlaup ( Glacier run, flood ) could generate as much water volume as the Amazon River. This water will travel over Europe's most powerful waterfall Detifoss, they say "Once you stand at the edge of Detifoss you will no longer be the same". After several weeks of earth quakes and conditions being upgraded to orange with evacuations now they have upgraded conditions to red.

All is happening directly above where the North American tectonic plate is separating from the European plate, just as it should.
