2013 Darwin Awards!

I explained this concept to my 9 yo daughter using the example: It's fake award for being stupid. Like if somebody threw themself off a cliff to see how high they bounced. Wasn't too far off on #5.

But we nearly peed ourselves on #10!

Numbers 2, 5 and 7 are my favorites.

I only wish there was a link so I could see the rest of 'em.

Broadsword2004: "#4 I also don't know if that qualifies for the Darwin award, unless it was obvious the bus was for some kind of inmates and not just regular passengers."

lol Re-analyze that one, Broadsword2004.

1. How long do you think the driver thought his master plan would go undetected?

2. Why did it take 3 days to figure out the ridemoochers weren't crazy?

The whole cast of characters deserves the Darwin award.

I think the use of the word 'Darwin' to highlight idiocy is offensive, and I'm probably just going to have to call my buddy Al Sharpton about this.

Don't sweat it; it was funny, but know this-never contaminate Sdiver's realm with impure material.

Most of these technically don't qualify for Darwin awards, since the original criteria for earning an award was removing one's self from the gene/mating pool through stupidity/extremely unusual circumstances.

I'm calling shenanigans.

Early candidates for 2016

Presently, all contestants are in India, but I'm certain we'll find challengers to this uptick shortly.

An Indian teenager accidently shot himself in the head with his father's gun while trying to take a "selfie" photograph, police said Sunday, the latest in a series of such accidents.

The 15-year-old is being treated in hospital at Pathankot in Punjab state and is expected to survive, said the city's deputy police superintendent, Manoj Kumar.

The accident happened on Friday evening when the schoolboy was playing at home with the licensed revolver which is normally kept in a wardrobe, Kumar told AFP.
"The boy's father and family said that he was trying to take a selfie with his gun," he said.

"We will speak to the boy when he is declared medically fit. We think that part of the blame obviously goes to the father for not keeping his loaded gun under lock and key at their home."

A teenager was run over and killed in the southern Indian city of Chennai in February as he tried to take a selfie in front of an oncoming train.

In January police in the western city of Mumbai moved to crack down on dangerous selfies after a man drowned trying to save a girl who fell into the sea while snapping one.

Police identified 16 dangerous selfie spots in Mumbai and asked the local council to erect warning signs and deploy lifeguards.

A man was seriously injured in April by an elephant when he tried to snap a selfie with the chained animal at a festival in Kerala, according to the Hindustan Times on Sunday.

The requirement for a Darwin award is first self selection, resulting in permanent removal from the gene pool.
From 2014 a Darwin qualified Living award winner
The Thing Ring
2014 Darwin Award Nominee
Confirmed True by Darwin

(May 2014, England) In the interest of public safety, Darwin Awards editors are releasing this ribald event to the public to serve as a warning to adventurous amorous males. The event was brought to our attention by an eyewitness, who provided additional details (withheld for privacy reasons) to confirm it.
"Being part of emergency services, firemen are called upon to get people out of unlikely situations. We were summoned to the A&E Department of a central London hospital to assist in removing a "thing ring." With our ring cutters at the ready, we were presented with the patient, his 'meat and two veg' extremely swollen and such a dark purple that they were almost blackened. The whole sorry mess was encircled by a thick titanium ring. Normally the procedure to remove a thing ring is a five-minute affair, but our cutters could not make a mark on the titanium! After expending a number of cutter blades we had to concede defeat.

"The man in question had put himself into this situation three days prior to committing himself to A&E, delaying the hospital visit due to embarrassment and a vain hope that it would resolve itself in time. Unfortunately this error in judgement cost him dearly. The wonderful doctors can often drain blood and remove the ring the way it went on--yet by the time he sought help, and our tools had been defeated, his jewels was past saving. Full castration--the result of the man's own actions and decisions--make this eunuch a self-selected nominee for a living Darwin Award.
