Sierra Vista Regional Health Center Names Dean French MD Hospital Chief Executive Off

http://www.regionalcare.net/news/201...xecutive-offic

Sierra Vista, AZ – November 11, 2013) – Officials at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center announced today that Dean French MD has been named as the new Chief Executive Officer for the hospital. Dr. French comes to SVRHC from Mission Trail Baptist Hospital (Baptist Health System) in San Antonio, TX where he most recently served as the Chief Medical/Operations Officer.
Dr. French’s first day at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center is expected to be December 12. Bruce Dockter, Chairman of the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center Board of Trustees, said “We are very excited to welcome Dr. French to Sierra Vista and to the hospital. He has a very diverse background which we believe will allow him to be a tremendously successful leader for our hospital. His combination of hospital operational success, a strong clinical history, and distinguished military service makes him uniquely qualified to lead in this community.” According to Dr. French, “My wife Jennifer and I are very excited to coming to Sierra Vista. This is a very exciting time for this hospital and the community. I look forward to working with the medical staff, hospital employees, and the board to continue to improve the quality and access to healthcare in southeastern Arizona.“ Dr. French added, “I have had the opportunity lead three large hospital construction projects, including two new hospitals, and have seen first-hand the impact a new facility has on both the local healthcare community and the region as a whole. I also spent seven years in the US Army Special Forces earlier in my career so I look forward to meeting Major General Ashley and other leaders at Fort Huachuca and finding ways that our hospital and medical community can support the important work they are doing.”
Kent Wallace, CEO at RegionalCare Hospital Partners said, “Dr. French has the perfect set of skills and experience to lead Sierra Vista Regional Health Center. He has been an
outstanding physician serving in rural communities in Montana and Nebraska; he is a decorated Army Special Forces soldier; and he has a significant depth of hospital experience both from the operations side as well as in clinical and medical staff leadership. We believe he will help Sierra Vista Regional Health Center become a regional referral center, serving all of southeast Arizona.” Mr. Wallace added, “Dr. French lead numerous clinical and patient safety advances while at Mission Trail Baptist Hospital. His hospital achieved 100% compliance with all CMS Core Measures for six of the last 12 months with a rolling average of over 98%. His hospital also had the fewest serious safety events in the system last year. I think these clinical successes were, in part, a result of the fact that his hospital also had the best employee engagement results in the system.”
Dean French MD is a board-certified Family Physician. He received his BS in Microbiology with Honors; Magna cum Laude from the University of Arizona and his M.D. University
of Washington School of Medicine. He began his medical career at Clark Fork Valley Hospital in Plains, Montana. In addition to his initial practice, he later served this
hospital as Chief Medical Officer / Interim CEO. From 2008-2011 Dr. French was the Chief Operating Officer/ Chief Medical Officer at Faith Regional Health Services, a 227-
bed two campus facility in Norfolk, NE. He most recently served as Chief Operations/ Medical Officer at Mission Trail Baptist Hospital, a 110-bed community hospital serving south San Antonio, TX. While at Mission Trail, Dr. French participated in planning the construction of the new hospital and facilitated the move from the existing facility to the all-new hospital. Prior to beginning his medical career, Dr. French spent seven years in the US Army Special Forces and two years in the US Army Special Forces Reserve. He spent time with the 1st, 10th, and 12th Special Forces Groups as Senior Special Operations Medical Sergeant. He has numerous Military Honors and Merit Awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Senior Parachutist Badge and the Combat Diver Badge. Dean French MD and his wife Jennifer have four grown children.

Hopefully he's the right man at the right time. SVRHC is building a new 100 bed facility due to be completed in the Spring of 2015. I've heard mixed reviews of SVRHC and many of our neighbors prefer the Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee.

Congratulations and welcome to the area, Dr. French!

Moving on:

SIERRA VISTA — Less than two years after taking the reins as the Chief Executive Officer of Sierra Vista’s hospital, Dr. Dean French is leaving for Montana to become the CEO of Community Medical Center in Missoula.

Officials at Canyon Vista Medical Center announced Monday that Jeff Egbert has been named the hospital’s interim CEO, while French will be returning to his home state and to the hospital where his wife and two of their children were born.

“While we are all certainly sad to see Dr. French and Jen leave Sierra Vista, we wish them all the best as they move home,” said Canyon Vista Medical Center (formerly SVRHC) board chair Bruce Dockter in a release. “Dr. French has done an outstanding job during his time here, leading us through the design, development, construction, and move into our new facility. We will always be thankful for the impact he has had on our community and our region.”

(snip)

“I expected to be here five years at a minimum,” French said. “When I joined RegionalCare, I didn’t know they were in the process of looking at Missoula as an acquisition. It was hard because the opportunity came along and I had to think about it. … I feel like I’m cutting my time here short, but at the same time, if I didn’t say yes now, I might not get the opportunity again.”

(snip)

“We’ve gotten a lot done in the last two years: getting the new hospital built, bringing in more staff, building the trauma center,” French said. “I certainly feel like we have things positioned for the hospital to grow and become a regional hospital for Cochise County. Is it done yet? No. Would I have liked to be here for the next two years to see it through? Yes. But we have things lined up to take those next steps.”
