Seattle council OK’s acquisition of centenarian’s waterfront parking lot

Seattle council OK’s acquisition of centenarian’s waterfront parking lot

http://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/n...sition-of.html

"The Seattle City Council voted Monday to acquire, either through negotiation or condemnation, a waterfront parking lot whose elderly owner has resisted selling.

Council members passed the bill 8-0, with no debate. The purpose of the acquisition is to mitigate for the loss of short-term, on-street parking during construction along the downtown waterfront and replacement of the Alaskan Way Viaduct....."

So they want to take his parking lot through condemnation so they can use it as a parking lot?

Me thinks there is some long term skullduggery going on here. Like they will "use" the parking lot during construction and when it's finished find they have no use for it. It will then be sold to a developer so he can build some fancy shops.

The city council claims in the legislation that the city will lose money if they don't take the property....Fvcking epic....

“Without this legislation,” they write, Seattle's government “miss an opportunity to address the limited supply of public, short-term parking,” which “will result in lost revenue to the City.”

If I was that old and they were screwing me I'd take my Glock down to city hall and show them.

And I'd be standing right beside you, (with a real gun though....)

That's why they're taking it from a 103 year old.

Stuff like that happens a lot in Southern California where real estate values are generally much higher than elsewhere. A city or county will seize property and then turn around and sell it to a developer. Professionally it's called eminent domain, I call it f#&king stealing.
