And where was the outspoken Senator Lane during the raid?

Talk about a war crime. The partisan warfare that took place in the border states during the Civil War was some cruel activity. Quantrill and Anderson were ruthless bastards who both died young and violently. They got what they deserved.

I just found an interesting site with historical events by date, and it goes back to double digit years (A.D.).

http://www.historyorb.com/events/september/18

18 September:

1755 - Fort Ticonderoga, New York opens

1793 - President George Washington lays cornerstone of Capitol building

#$%## Jayhawkers were just as bad. Lane was a drunk and died a drunks death. As a side note--Frank James and the Younger' brothers rode with Quantrill. Jesse rode with Bloody Bill towards the end of the war. According to legend Cole was to be sent back east by his affluent family to stay out of trouble. However, when a Union officer made a mistake of insulting him, and he beat said officer senseless, there was no turning back for him. Cole and Frank were best friends. Cole really didn't like Jesse but tolerated him because of Frank. My understanding is to this day in a judges office in Platte City , MO, there is a picture of Lawrence after the raid. T he engraved caption below reads, "MU 187--KU 0.
