It's actually been on the Android phones for a couple of years now.

It has been on sprint iPhones for a long time also. Nothing new. I have a lot of off buttons for many settings on my phone........

They get pissed with my work phone as I have done the same for it. Just like a alert application on our network. I login each time and the first thing I do is close the monitoring program "chat/boss monitoring who is logged on". The boss has quietly made comments and I am quick to say I disable it and he has no balls to answer after that. The network admins have the capability and he does not need to IM or see if I am logged in. Hell I have a BB so I can be contacted by email or a call. Thanks god my work is mostly in the street not sitting in front of a workstation.

I received an Amber Alert twice last month on my Boost Android HTC 1 and was wondering how the hell I got them.

There isn't much on the net about it, but I did find this

Earlier this year, Sprint joined the FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and FEMA agency administrator W. Craig Fugate in committing to the deployment of a wireless emergency alert system.

Under the Messenger settings/Emergency alerts we have:

Presidential alert - Locked in the 'On' position

Extreme alert - can be edited

Severe alert - can be edited

Amber alert - can be edited

Test emergency alert - can be edited

Comes standard on my blackberry.

I get amber alerts for missing children & suspect vehicles all the time on my BB [I]but have never received any message on my iPhone.


Me thinks maybe these apps are SENDING alerts to the govt!!!
