The People's Republik of Kalifornia taxing ammo purchases
California, flat broke and now infringing on the 2nd Amendment again by taxing ammo to pay their bills. Now I will check every item I purchase to ensure it's not made or sold by California. To the people living in Calif, let me know when they start throwing folks in prison for public dissent.
California Approves $92M Ammo Tax To Combat Gun Violence
By Dabney Bailey, Fri, May 17, 2013
The California Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee recently approved a new measure that places a 10 percent tax on all ammunition sold in California. Law enforcement agencies will be exempt from the tax.
The Board of Equalization estimates that the new tax will generate $92.4 million in annual revenues.
Democratic Assemblymen Rob Bonta and Roger Dickinson, who both support the bill, hope to use the new revenue to help cities that are plagued with gun violence. Bonta explained, “Cities throughout the state, including Oakland, are suffering horrific and increasing gun violence. AB 187 will provide the City of Oakland, and cities in similar circumstances, with sufficient street-level public safety presence to prevent gun violence and attend to it when it does occur.”
California legislators are also trying to push through bills that would allow Oakland city officials to draft stronger gun laws to combat violence in their crime-wracked city.
But AB 187 doesn't focus entirely on guns. The bill will also fund mental healthcare services for California children. “Screening young children for signs of mental illness and addressing any issues early on is the key to a healthier and more productive adult life,” Assemblyman Dickinson said. “A limited tax on ammunition is a small price to pay for better mental healthcare for kids, reduced crime, and safer communities statewide.”

California is the model for the Country in the minds of libs. Look how successful that state is!
If we had decent gun control, we could be more like some model lib cities, too, such as Chicago, Detroit and NY.

What's even worse than having the tax implemented, is that it sets a precedence for all states / federal government.
Tobacco, alcohol, healthcare, soda, fast food, petroleum..., now ammo.
We are spiraling out of control. The reigns must be pulled back.

The Dims have a super-majority in the state legislature, now. It's only just begun.

I'd like somebody to explain to me how increased taxes help me as businessman and an individual... You know, since any increase in taxes equals a decrease in my operating capital...

So is there ammo readily available on the shelves in California to be taxed? If availability is anything like it is here in Iowa they will not be collecting much in the way of taxes. I have a son out in California and the best part about visiting him out there is the fact that I get to leave and come home.

At the same time that they want to tax ammo they also want to ban it completely. I don't remember the Bill number but they are trying to ban lead ammo outright. They also want to impose a 5% sales tax on all reloading supplies to include bullets, brass, powder and primers.
Also included on the new list of Bills is a 15 day gun purchase wait (from a 10 day one), re-classification of all semi automatic magazine fed firearms (to include a Ruger 10/22) to assault rifle status which will require registration.
As soon as circumstances permit I'm moving to a red state. Anybody know where I can find a job in Arizona?

No but I've got an idea to create a few jobs..... we set up tents on I-8, I-10, I-40 and I-15, in Arizona and sell non-taxed ammo and all sorts of Hi-cap mags......
Would be no different than those firecracker businesses that sell firecrackers on border states.
