An elderly man had a massive stroke and was transported to the local hospital emergency room.
After a long wait, the ER doctor came out of the examining room and approached the man's wife with a long face.
"I'm afraid I have some mixed news. Your husband is brain-dead...but his heart is still beating."
"Oh, dear Lord," exclaimed his wife. "We've never had a liberal in the family before."
