I just sold my Cobra "Fish 'n Dive" kayak. For that activity, buy your kayak (as you do most boats) 'by the pound'!

The guy had NO visible 'leash' on his paddle. One of these days, he's in for a reallllly bad experience.

He'd probably say, "No problem, brow."

Fishing in a kayak, or just heading out in a kayak in general .... forget that !!!!

As Brody told Quint ..... "I think we're going to need a bigger boat."

Remember the scene in the movie "Jaws" where Roy Scheider says "we need a bigger boat."

I wish I would have thought of that.

I used to enjoy getting pulled around by a drum in the flats, but out where it's deep you might as well be straddling a big Rapala lure.

I only kayak on the Mississippi River. I've never seen a catfish that big!

I wouldn't worry about the catfish either.
It's the "other" fish I'd take a keen interest in.

Bull Sharks hang in murky turbid water and are known to travel a long way up river..

When my brother was in HS, one of his friends was water skying in the intracoastal in Boca Raton.

He fell and a Bull bit him on the thigh. Spit him out with just a lot of surface puncher wounds.

He later said he "hit something" when he fell. I think the Bull was chasing him..

SD, Bull sharks in the MS River!!!!! You've got to be kidding me! I couldn't believe that when I read that. I know a lot of commercial fishermen here and never have heard them mention any. So it must be very rare. Thank God! Annually we put on a 22 mile canoe/kayak race on the river to support Service Over Self, a HS religious service org. A lot of teens/ Scouts participate. Both of my sons and wife and I have done it a few times. It's a week from this Sat. I'll pass this to our safety boats at which point they'll pass me a tin foil hat! LOL!! Seriously, our local CG station sends out a safety boat. I'll ask them about it. My oldest stroking away:

Bull Sharks

Have been occasional reports of Bull Sharks being found in the Atchafalaya basin. A long way from the Gulf. If the gaters don't get you a shark might.

Yep, Dad, I've heard that. Lake Ponchatrain, too. Or is that part of the basin? Anyway, Vicksburg is 2-250 river miles north of there. Speaking of gators, our local USA Swimming Club team hosts an open water swim and triathlon in an oxbow lake north of town, Eagle Lake. It is named the "Gatorbait Open Water Swim and Triathlon." And MS Game and Fish Commission DOES provide " gator patrol" boats to watch for gators! None spotted in our first 4 years of the event, though.
