Gun free restaurants??

Plain clothes officers refused to be served because they were armed. Then people wonder why the movie shooting and other shootings occur. Who is going to stop them in a gun free zone?

Gun free zone signs serve as open door policy advertisements to thieves and robbers. It's their choice. I don't visit them.

Sounds like Buffalo Wild Wings got caught going by the letter of their law, and then doing damage control.

I don't see what the big deal is. Buffalo Wild Wings has had a "No Guns on Property for quite awhile.

If you research "B.W.W. Gun Free zone or Ban", you'll find blog after blog about this dating back a few years.

It just looks as if it were an overzealous waitress who "freaked out" when she saw the officers with the weapons. It just goes to prove what a "Media Induced Craze" has transpired lately. People getting all "CRAZY" when they see a gun, ANY gun, even those carried by LEOs.

But it looks as if the manager of said restaurant is sorry that the incident took place.

Lupton said he sent an “apologetic” email to LaClair, who could not be reached for comment early Thursday. Lupton also told the police department he was sorry.

“It was an apologetic letter for the misunderstanding,” he said, referring further questions to a company spokesman

I have no problem with this. If someone can explain to me why the rules that apply to me shouldn't also apply to any police officer, I'd love to hear it. In fact, in most places in the USA, as a citizen, I have the same arrest powers as a police officer - I just don't have the same legal protection.

Things like this need to happen in order for regular people to see how ludicrous things like gun free zones are. The more this happens, the sooner we'll hopefully do away with such foolishness.

DJ, I agree with you,but, how many citizens in society would think or behave in the same manner as you would. If citizens were given same legal protections as law enforcement officers, the court systems would come to a screeching halt.

I don't know the answer to that question.

You can't pass legislation based on the lowest common denominator because then you're penalizing responsible people.

There is only one person that is responsible for my own personal safety, and that is me. The police are under no obligation to protect you. The police are there to collect evidence so that the prosecutor can prosecute. It's picking up diamonds on a deserted island on the off chance you might get rescued. I'm fortunate to know a number of old school protect-and-serve cops, but sadly, they're in the minority.

I think it's the prerogative of a business to not allow firearms on their premises, but I also feel that the legal requirement for the signage should be that they are red and yellow, 36"x36" square, made out of metal, posted on every single door into or out of the establishment, and they should cost no less than $500 each. A single four inch, semi transparent decal at groin level doesn't cut it in my book.

its illegal to carry in any location that serves alcohol. This is one of the stipulations of the concealed carry permit. Or did you guys not read the standard sized print in the application?

Hello, BWW has a bar that serves alcohol..

The waiter /waitress who refused to serve them needs a large tip. though they probably got canned for the bad publicity.

Not necessarily. It depends on which state you're in.

Even here in Colorado it's okay to go into a restaurant that serves alcohol while CC. ..... for the time being.

That isnt entirely correct. Some states allow the permit holder to carry in restaurants who serve alcohol so long as the establishment receives no more than a percentage of revenue from alcohol sales. The percentage varies.

In Texas its 51%, which would make the establishment a bar.
