I wouldn't worry too much about that guy .... it's the fella with the shotgun that I'd be looking at.
If he let loose a shot in the position he's in, in that photo, he'd be in one rude wake up.

Don't you normally test fire a rifle after making a change?
I am trying not to be too judgmental. I have done more stupid things in my life then I care to think about. I am grateful that there was no one around with cameras when I did them (that I know of at least). I even put peep sights backwards on a 10/22 once. I never noticed what I had done until I went to shoot the weapon.
But to my mind, putting a new sight on a rifle and test firing it goes hand and hand. I normally do one right after the other and I assume I am not alone. How do you go to hostage rescue with a rifle you have not test fired? And how do you test fire a rifle without figuring out that the sight is on backwards? And how do you get on to a Swat Team by being as big an idiot as Ape Man?
At any rate, trying to zero the rifle was how I figured out that I was an idiot with the 10/22. If the fella in the picture had tested his weapon maybe he would have figured out before the cameras caught him.

Cut the man some slack, he and his comrades are a highly trained, well disciplined, professional police force sent to protect you and your children in case of armed lunatic on rampage.

Aside from the backwards sight, is it possible this photo was staged?

That was my hope.

That was my hope. But I poked around and found the original source. Upper right corner is the video the still shot was taken from.
Call me naive, but I don't think Upstate NY TV stations have stooped to Photoshopping stuff to make the local police force look bad. For one thing, I don't think the TV reporters would know enough to know which end was which even if they did want to make them look bad.
Now if it was CNN.....

Other photos of the same guy
This is one photo of the guy.
And here is another.
It would be nice if these where Photoshopped. But I am having a hard time believing that.

Exactly may thoughts.
What are the odds the only 3 incompetent individuals were captured in pictures behind the one vehicle?

I had to know
When I saw this photo I wondered "what does he see?" So I pulled out my trusty AR and removed my EO-Tech sight. Through the correct side was the characteristic 1MOA dot surrounded by the the 65MOA circle. When I looked through the other side; I saw Elvis
Seriously, mounted in the fashion our fine officer has chosen, you have holographic nothing--a piece of empty glass to gaze through.

So the uninitiated wouldn't know, and would think that it's not on wrong?
Yes?

I would expect the uninitiated to ask, given the sight is apparently not working. I would certainly expect someone in a hostile environment to understand how his weapon works and to ensure that it does.
