"Habemus Papum”
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013...rio-bergoglio/
76-year-old Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1936 and he has four brothers and sisters. Bergoglio was born to an Italian immigrant railroad father and a mother who was a housewife.First head of the Catholic Church ever to come from the Americas and the first from outside Europe in more than a millennium.
He chose the name Pope Francis. (The Jesuits and Franciscans are traditional rivals in the Catholic Church)
Originally he wanted to be a chemist. In 1958 he joined the Society of Jesus and began preparing for the priesthood.
Bergoglio is known as a “straight-shooter” who has no problem calling situations as he sees them. He subscribes to the Catholicism’s most conservative wing.

I am very excited that Pope Francis I is a Jesuit. The Jesuits I had the privilege to have as teachers, were always the toughest, most honest, thought provoking teachers.

They should have picked a younger guy. Somebody with some fire and drive. Reminds me of the last years of the Soviet Union, letting all the old guys have their turn on the way out.....

I think he may be the first Jesuit Pope since...uh, well, I guess Peter may have sorta been a Jesuit, but, then maybe not.

Just curious. Practicing too, right?
As for the youth thing . . . I saw that he was the runner up last time around. And since he gets the pope-mobile, the ruck marches probably won't be a problem. JP2 did pretty good right up to the end.
Maybe we need a PopeX-ray program.

Guys - what Dozer didn't say was that he and I were getting a little pissed about all the black smoke being billowed into the air from all the voting. He and I got together for lunch yesterday and over some beans and rice we figured, "what the hell?" and picked this cat. Figured it'd be fun seeing him try to do latin with a Latin American flair, (we're quite the jokesters).
Just shows what two of us can do when we get together. Imagine a "gaggle"....
Tim - good meeting you yesterday and getting to talk. Jim

In theory, yes I suppose Peter was. But not technically.
Brief history of the Jesuits' founding:
http://www.jesuit.org/
They are the only order to take a fourth "specific vow of obedience to the Pope in regards to mission."
It is also interesting to note the significance of the papal robes that Pope Francis chose to wear yesterday. As well as his choice of wearing his own simple cross, rather than one of the more "flashy" ones worn by other pontiffs.

Nope. Left the church when my mom got divorced from an abusive husband. She went to the church for help and they told her he would quit hitting her if she would just stop making him mad.......
