State of the Union and GOP Response

Topics addressed (if I missed something add to the list):
  • Social Security fix
  • tax reform
  • manufacturing hubs
  • research and development investments
  • energy/climate change-possible executive action
  • fix it first/infrastructure
  • mortgage re-financing
  • universal preschool
  • redesign of high school system
  • cost of higher education/college scorecard
  • immigration reform
  • gun control

What are your thoughts on the President's discussion of the forementioned topics and what did you think of the GOP response?

He'll campaign against the evil Republican stance on each and every issue until the libdems have both sides of Congress, then he'll fully institute his socialist agenda relative to each subject with no Congressional opposition.

First off, as a SOTU address, overall, I gave it a B-.

When he mentioned tax reform, specifically lowering the corporate rate, I asked, "Hasn't he been the POTUS for the last FOUR years?"

He played his gun control card very well, having 'stacked the deck' with the right people in the audience.

I think he made his immigration proposals sound tougher than they are. Nothing substantial about 'border security'.

No mention of from where the money for all those cool ideas would come.

Rubio did well, I think.

And POTUS said none of his proposals would increase the deficit.

With all due respect to the Office, thought I was watching David Letterman or an Infomercial. Cavuto actually compared it to the latter...

”for not one penny more you get all this plus...” add Cowboy's list...

All kidding aside got a call from the local Representative whom asked if I'd comment on it tonight. Got plenty of material.

If viewed as an 'infomercial' or Letterman, how is this SOTU address different from most - or all - of them?

If you don't mind, what kind of "Representative" and where - AZ or MT, and why you?

Interesting, because he is lying not only himself but everyone in the country. (ie. Selling crap). Accounting is black and white, no gray.

Zonies question didn't sound offensive to me...

"All kidding aside got a call from the local Representative whom asked if I'd comment on it tonight. Got plenty of material. "

Kinda leads to the question...who is the rep and why you? Just natural curiosity. PS.com might have its very own in-house celebrity.

Sorry your panties got all in a bunch.

Point well taken, not a celebrity just a small business person. Will unbunch the panties and post it later tonight.

While I don't think the entire speech would fit this description, I don't necessarily disagree with calling it "selling crap"!

My point is that this is far from the first time that this has happened in a SOTU address. In my view, that is the primary purpose of the SOTU address - to sell. And someone is going to label what is being sold as "crap". (Remember how President Reagan's economic /taxation policies were framed by some?)

I apologize if you perceived my questions to be insulting. I thought you meant U.S. Representative, and if it was one from AZ, I wanted to know which one.

That was what seemed to be implied...

Accept mine too.

I have dealt briefly with Senator McCain on a wildlife issue many years ago, he was helpful.

Chances of being able to speak are diminishing...think he called the whole damn state...lol
