Obama considering John Kerry for job of defense secretary
By Karen DeYoung and Greg Miller,
Monday, November 12, 5:31 PM
President Obama is considering asking Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) to serve as his next defense secretary, part of an extensive rearrangement of his national security team that will include a permanent replacement for former CIA director David H. Petraeus.
Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with the transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Amazing. The article isn't even about Kerry. But did make you look!
Besides, coveting is a sin. You can't always get what you want . . . Sort of a Rolling Stones moment

It makes me sick to my stomach think of Kerry in such a post. Nothing like having a defense secretary that feels like we are only in uniform because weren't smart enough to find better jobs.
...I hope that the Mayans were right and December 12 gets here quick.
John Kerry being considered for SECDEF, our generals are surrounded by scandal, and "Elmo" likes little boys.
Someone please help me understand what is going on in America!

DOD must need the Heinz $$$ to overcome their projected budget shortfall...I wonder how much JK bid for the job.
As for SecState - I would prefer the other Rice.

Wow. just....WOW.
Do these people realize the vast majority of the military comes from the "red states"?? What happens when we take our ball and go home?
Way to go "O", like Panetta wasn't bad enough; let's put Lurch in to really "help us out".
On the other hand - if we ever get in a land-war with China, we could set up a team of photographers deep in their rear and tell Kerry they want a press conference. The man would blow through them like Elton John at Boys Town.

Jim, it's probably a lot easier than having a RIF. Just give everyone a reason to ETS/Resign before retirement.

Probably just floating an idea. There are a very few lower on my list of people who should not be privileged to be around Soldiers and their names I won't post here.
A very charitable and objective Andrew Card mentioned today that, while he personally hates the idea, the POTUS gets to pick (and then the nonimee goes thru the gauntlet). Key to that assessment was that Kerry "will have to OWN everything he's ever said."
SECSTATE maybe. He's more of a stemmed glass type; a heavy tumbler doesn't fit.
