Veterans Day 2012 thoughts

To all my fellow veterans past and present, THANK YOU! I wrote this poem in 09 and read it at a Veterans Day Service, I wanted to share it with all of you as we remember those who are no longer with us. May God continue to bless you all.

We gather at this spot today
And feel your presence near
We lost you many years ago
As did all who held you dear

You left for war a fine young man
And held your head so high
Said last good byes to loved ones
And wiped a teary eye

It was just for a year you told them
And said it would go fast
You marched off to your destiny
On hold you put your past

You did a job not all would do
In a place so far away
You slept in mud and ate the dust
And counted every day

We lost you in that awful war
You would not be alone
A flag draped coffin brought you back
On your long journey home

We gather here on Veterans Day
Like so many other years
We call your name and ring the bell
And wipe away our tears

Gaze down on us from heaven
And help us ease the pain
Know that you live within our hearts
And that you did not die in vain

So rest in peace, our Brothers,
As the bell rings loud and clear
And know you’re always with us
For we know you’re always near

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month

I shall give my heartfelt gratitude in a moment of silence for those who are and have served this great nation. Thank you!

It is a great tribute to Our Nation that We still hold sacred a day to honor Veterans on a National basis.

To me, everyday is Veterans Day, as it should be.

As is a QP's signature on here....:

"If you do not stand behind Our Troops, please feel free to stand in front of them!"

Love Our Brave Soldiers, and thank you for keeping PS.com alive! It means a lot to a lot of folks, and some who are hidden in the shadows who support You QP's!!!

Fayetteville Veterans Day Parade

Fayetteville Veterans Day Parade: Crowds turn out to say 'thank you'

http://fayobserver.com/articles/2012...2?sac=fo.local

"The mix of soldiers, marching bands and floats that rolled through downtown Fayetteville on Saturday morning were a first-time sight for 66-year-old Jan Gojko.

"I've never seen a Veterans Day parade in my life," Gojko said.

He served in Vietnam, leaving the Army in 1969.

"I try not to focus on that," Gojko said, referring to his own service. "I focus on the folks who are serving now."..................................."

There are many nice things about Fayetteville - this is one of them.

It was dropped for a few years and took some beating with a big stick to get it back.
