" HOPE MILLS - For nearly two decades, retired drill sergeant and bailiff Roger Redd met a few dozen hard-headed kids in pre-dawn hours several days a week at his boot camp - a dose of tough love intended to teach them self-respect and keep them out of prison.

Thousands of teens have gone through his program over the years and matured into young men and women. Now, Redd's last class, which named itself the Roger Redd Memorial Class, graduates at the end of this month.

With his death Aug. 6, the future of his program is unclear......................"
