APSU Cadet Tabbed As One Of Nation's Best
LeafChronicle, 30 Aug 2012

Ex-green beret Cadet Sean Hunt stood at attention Thursday as he was named one of the top eight senior ROTC cadets in the country.

Hunt was presented the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross of Achievement, an award presented to the top eight Reserve Officer Training Corps seniors in the country each year. Hunt is the second Austin Peay State University senior to receive the award. Lt. Shamai Larsen received the award in 2009. Lt. Col. Greg Lane said, “This is awesome for cadet Hunt, and it sets the precedence for our own cadets.”

Hunt, a senior pre-med Chemistry major and former Sgt. 1st Class 5th Special Forces Group soldier, went through the Green to Gold program. He was selected by Cadet Command as one of the eight recipients out of a nationwide class of 6,000 from 273 schools who will commission cadets in the class of 2013. This award recognizes overall excellence in ROTC, including overall GPA, ROTC GPA, physical training score and performance at Army ROTC summer training at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wa. Hunt said he was a little surprised and very honored to receive the award. “It solidifies all my hard effort, especially the sacrifices my family has made,” he said, making reference to his wife and children.

Col. Anthony Dill, Deputy Commander of the 5th Special Forces Group, presented the award to Hunt and said, “It was a great honor to be here and recognize not only one of the great cadets here from Austin Peay, but a great soldier retained here in the force by moving from the enlisted ranks to an officer.”

Seems in this case the fruit doesn't fall off the tree at all, it just ripens.
Pretty neat & some pretty select company, before and now.

Great job by CDT Hunt!

This begs the question:
Can you really be an EX-Green Beret?

You are only an Ex-Green Beret if you have been kicked out of the Regiment. We are all "Former Green Berets"...

I did some research. I do not understand why they call him "Ex Special Forces" because even though he earned it on the enlisted side, he is still allowed to wear his tab as an officer. I assume that means he can still "don the beret" as an officer as well? I wonder how many SF qualified 2LTs are in the Army right now.

He's qualified as an NCO - he's not qualified as an 18A...yet...which is why I placed the qualifier in the thread's heading and didn't say "Ex SF" but "Ex-SF NCO."

Back in your lane.
