LAPD: ‘Active’ Terror Plots Linked To Iran, Hezbollah, ‘Sovereign Citizens’

Quote:
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Senior police officials on Wednesday warned of potential terrorist attacks in Southern California amid a growing risk of war breaking out overseas.

KNX 1070′s Ed Mertz reports the LAPD is concerned with what it calls a number of “active” plots in the Southland.

“In this region we have active terrorist plots, in this region, right now,” said Deputy Chief Michael Downing, commanding officer of the LAPD’s counter-terrorism unit.

The Department is currently tracking “government of Iran operatives, Hezbollah, sovereign citizen, homegrown violent extremists, animal rights groups” and others, Downing said.

He added that Iranian or Hezbollah agents may initiate attacks locally if war erupts between the U.S. and Iran.

The stark warning comes amid a policy shift from the Los Angeles Police Commission, which approved new guidelines on how officers can document what they deem to be suspicious behavior.

The oversight panel voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize officers to report any person who may be involved in activity that may not be illegal but could be linked to terrorism.

Quote below from the article cited in the OP. I'm sure that there are various operatives in this country - but that is just some crack police work right there. I just hope that the "senior police officials" are aware that Iran and their proxies will, similarly, not hesitate to use disinformation to undermine US public appetite for destroying (or assisting in the destruction of) the Iranian nuclear capability. The writing is on the wall and Tehran knows it.

And, those animal rights activists...

Sure, we must take active threats seriously - but MOO - I'd like to see our senior officials perhaps become a little more circumspect with regard to active investigations.

But, fear not, the movie rights have already been sold.

Given Kalifornicate's propensity to spend outrageous amounts of taxpayer dollars on their unions.. This may be a case of "senior police officials and their proxies" also not hesitate to use disinformation,, to their pocket books benefit..

JJ - agreed - it crossed my mind that an "LA SWAT" budget may factor into these types of discussions. Colin Farrell and Samuel L. Jackson will provide the next briefing.

It's like playing poker - sometimes ya gotta show a card to see if the other guy will blink and show his hand.

And so it goes...

I like the poker analogy.

Perhaps, they got the "bluff" - we got the "tell" - and the "poker face" has all but disappeared?

For the senior LAPD officials:

For the senior LAPD officials:

Since 9/11 how many terrorist attacks have been perpetrated against the United States? Sure you can even count the moron shoe bomber, what's that like one in the last 11 years?

Sit down little civilian men, the US Military is on the job.

We know there's about to be a change of command and we know you might be vying for a post as the new Department of Homeland Security Chief, as your sky is falling rhetoric is on par with what DHS spews constantly and for the same reason, more money, more equipment, more men and more authority.

As a taxpayer, a veteran and someone that really was trained to hunt the bad men let me say that you "civilians" disgust me when you speak of your counter-terrorist "fantasies" and you scare the common idiot into thinking you actually may be onto something.

Your day job is to enforce the law in Los Angles, not in the Iran, and not in the Middle East. You cannot even stop the gangs in LA and you want to fight terrorists? Please, you're amusing me to no end. Your training and capability doesn't even place you in the minor leagues when it comes to terrorists.

If I remember correctly Bill Hillar was a member of the Los Angeles Executive Board, well until it was found out he was a fraud. I'm betting some of LAPD "senior" officers attended
Bill Hillar's counter-terrorism training.

The LAPD has taken a page straight from DHS and janet's playbook. And I sure the page was "building your agency based off Public FEAR".

"The Department is currently tracking “government of Iran operatives, Hezbollah, sovereign citizen, homegrown violent extremists, animal rights groups” and others, Downing said."

Let us know when you infil the LAPD "Strike Team" into country.... I just made myself laugh.......

Ridiculous. This is the same team that had their guns stolen from their training facility, after all.

I didn't look at the article in full but do have a bit of insight. I'm also not really sure how the LAPD does their business, but have good first hand experience how reporters do theirs:

Most agencies out here have been dealing with the potential for terrorist activity. When something is suspected, it is relayed in an email to Homeland Security. From what I understand, they put together all the incoming information and look to see if there is any pattern or multiple reportings. Most things we provide them are simply procautionary and turn out to be nothing.

The media, on the other hand, appears to present just about everything in the most outrageous way it can possibly be taken. It's not always the case, but from every article I've been involved in somehow, it does seem to be the norm.

Most agencies are training to respond to multiple active shooters in multiple areas. But terrorist investigation itself is mostly limited to a very few lliason officers attached to Homeland Security. Crossing the line into more of a role for law enforcement is getting into some nasty big brother stuff and I hope we don't make it there. Posturing for money with this kind of talk seems unethical as well.

Sounds like someone is angling for some face time with Daniela Ruah and hoping for a cross over event during sweeps so both Diane Neal and Cote de Pablo will also be in the room.

"Here, ladies, let me show you some of the hand-to-hand techniques we use...this demonstration will work best if you take off your jackets...and maybe your blouses as well...after all, I wouldn't want the baby oil and glitter I've got in my Country Comm Bail Out Bag (gen 5) to ruin your clothes...Pardon? Yes, yes, and yes. The oil and glitter are absolutely necessary. Trust me, I'm a professional."
