Questions about 80s era sniper and counter sniper courses
US Army Counter Sniper Course Ft Meade MD M21 System Class #3-81 USAMTU#1
Anyone know anything about this? I can not find any information on it.
The person who claims they went to this course served in the army for approx 3 years, got out as a private, and served as an MP at fort dix.
This person has basically claimed he is the best shooter in the world..

He has a certificate (thumbnail) posted on that page about 1/2 way down on the center right, along with an MP school certificate and something else. Click on the certificate to see the large copy...

It's reasonable.
Each of the CONUS Numbered Armies had a post or divisional Marksmanship Training Unit and there was one at Meade.
The AMU and MTU sniper courses were two weeks long and trained a guy to shoot an M21 to 600 yards with an ART scope.
I have a copy of the Benning POI and training schedule somewhere. There was a lot stuffed into ten days (including M21 w/AN/PVS-2 and M16A1 w/AN/PVS-4 night firing). My memory is foggy but I believe all shooting we did at Benning was on full-size iron maidens and pop-ups.
It looks like his MP School certificate may have been awarded for completing MP AIT.

Dave, the Counter Sniper Program was a different animal that was run both AMTU and AMU MTT. It was a more related to close in shooting, however I do not remember the closer ranges. I am looking for the Counter Sniper Manual from Benning as it has the POI in it. As with you, my memory is foggy now on the specifics.

Yes i have posted an introduction. for those who dont know, i am currently assisting ARSOF A&S right now.. I have completed all the prerequisites to become an 18D except Robin Sage, to include sere and language which used to be after you got your tab. (I am a fully trained 18D - Requested removal), unfortunately last november i could not finish sage because of a lingering leg injury. I have been back and forth to the clinic and after almost a year i am finally getting treated.
Currently i am listed as a 68w w1, because unlike the navy, we do not have a SOIDC. IF anyonbe questions my position out at ARSOF, if anyone knows any cadre out there, you can check up to see if i am legit. I am not assigned out there; however, the Senior medic is in SLC and I have been honored with the Senior Medic position even though i am not assigned to ARSOF A&S.
I wanted to be vague at first, and i appreciate all the information. This man is my abusive step father who used to abuse my mother, brother and myself physically and psychologically. I left my home when i was 16 because of this man after my mother was killed in a car accident.
I have not spoken to this man in almost 13 years, and after my wife cheated on me and left me in the Q, she ran up to NJ, uses this man as her moral compass, which is non existent and he has been a negative influence in my childs life. I needed information to see how far his lies go back and it appears to go back to even his military days.
I dont know much about his time in the military because i distanced myself from him long before i joined the armed forces and went on the path i did. I remember him always telling us about how awesome he was, i never realized until after i served with true heros and great soldiers that people that are awesome do not talk about how awesome they are.
From what i read in responses it appears that a course like this would be considered the equivalent of a SDM/LRM basic class. I have taking long range classed with the M14, and the M4 (which is kind of stupid with the M4); however, they arent anything special.. Can i use an M14 accurately to 600 meters? Yes, that doesnt mean i am a sniper.
Its just disgusting to me because my adoptive grandfather was a navy pbr vietnam vet with 3 bronze stars and 2 purple hearts. Then we have my step father, who may not be lying but is obviously boasting his certification a little more then it actually means. He told us when we were growing up "He was the best counter sniper in the military." I cant even fathom to believe anything this guy has ever said...
Yet again, thank you for all the answers you guys gave me. I am also sorry for the delay in responding, some of the fun side duties of my position are covering pt tests and giving med briefs for the CA and PSYOPS "selection" programs also. I currently have a court date on Sept14 trying to protect my daughter from these people.

one more time i can not thank this community of true professional soldiers more. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this community, i plan on switching to guard just in case they can fix me, i want to try to have a door open to possibly become a true "Quiet Professional" if i can. That doesnt mean barely make it through sage and be a b-team guy, SF deserves better. If thats all i can do, the beret doesnt mean enough for me to take up space on a team and be useless. I have the knowledge and that is what is important.

Also this man has this on his page...
In 1980 I swore to support and defend OUR Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; as did my father, my grandfather and my son. That is a big reason I teach firearms training. So you can protect your family, yourself and our Constitution if need be. Lets all pray it never comes to that.
his "son" is me. I have not spoke to him in 13 years, he refers to me as "a kid" in family photos. IE.. "4 generations of wilsons and a kid"
He, furthermore, attempted to ruin my older brothers life, which has also caused my older brother to have to live with me now... He is trying to get his life together.. I could not talk more about how parasitic this guy truly is.

You are not a fully trained 18D, so lets be honest with what we post here.
IMO, there is way too much personal information, unverifiable information on this post to allow it to remain open. I'd rather not see our house become a canvas for personal disputes initiated by guests who are not known by our community. As always I will defer to more seasoned and wise members, but I would like to see this post closed.

sorry HD.. yes I have completed the whole SFMS program. SOIDM if there was such an MOS which would be an 18D without a Tab. Im sorry if that offended you, the 18D cadre at ARSOF A&S told me to stop talking down to myself by saying i was JUST a w1..
I have completed everything except sage. So as for academic training, yes i have completed ALL 18D schooling requirements. I not once said i was an 18D or tried to degrade the Tab of the Beret, so i can not really see why you have such animosity towards me.

I edited my response above to not upset some of the members of the forum.. I added the perentces around the comment that the person didnt like to reflect what he was talking about so the conversation still makes sense.
sorry for the confusion.

Way to be a quiet professional by changing what you wrote after the fact.. Its cool I will delete this post and im signing off of this site because it is obvious blue and I have different definitions of a quiet professional.
To the wise operators thank you. To the person that wants to change what they wrote so they are perceived differently. Well that burden is on your soul not mine.

You might want to stop posting at this time.
