Paralyzed war veteran says hotel worker mocked his request for help

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/08/10...uest-for-help/

I'm not sure how many saw this. The Best Western employee's conduct is simply inexcusable...

So you don't believe in the concept of 'due process'?

According to a news release from the hotel, Best Western “has concluded its review of the matter and the individual involved is no longer employed by the property.”

Of course I do, and I'm sure that there is individuals that would make up some crap to gain money or other things, but I just don't see a soldier doing something like that.

Pretty naive position - I hope you're never as disappointed as I have been on several occasions by what some 'soldiers' are capable of doing.

I'm thinking there's more to the story. I find very few factual news articles relating to this and many blogs forums and comments with reactionary comments.

I believe Richard Jewell is a good example of why verified facts need to guide actions, while unverified allegations and hearsay need vetting.

I'd like to know for example, what time the incident occurred and how many employees were available. What was the immediate need for the individual to be moved from the room vs what else was happening in the hotel due the power outage. How did the individual come to accept a room other than a first floor room, does he lack the ability to ask for a first floor room. That last point is due to his statement he places responsibility for his room placement on Best Western.

Conduct aside the one employee in question doesn't look physically capable of assisting an adult paralyzed male down a stairs.

Is the incident a result of lack of staff, an individual losing their temper or other.

Also

This is one article with a statement from the hotel employee.

Quote:
The employee on the phone was Holly Oyerbides. In a statement she stated: " I received a phone call from a guest in room 302. I answer the phone saying front desk can I help you. Chad in a mad voice states the elevator is not working. And then says I'm in a (explicative) wheel chair how am I suppose to get down. I then reply what can I do to help you. He then states are you (explicative) kidding me I'm in a wheel chair and hangs up. Then minutes later he comes down to the front desk..."

We tried asking the manager Andy Patel about what took place, but after hiding in the back room, he declined to make any further comments.

Veteran Staples said he never expected his complaint to go nationwide, but he wants something to be done.

"My ultimate goal, and I have to admit I do want her fired. No one should ever be in service, who acts like that. But beyond that they need to change their entire policy on handicap rooms and where the rooms are located and who they give them to" said veteran Chad Staples. - cbs7kosa.com/news/details.asp?ID=36586
The employee has been fired or resigned, due her actions and/or public reaction.

Staples is going to lead a very frustrating, disappointing life if this is an example of how he will handle the many and varied obstacles he'll certainly encounter.
