Remember the war in Afghanistan?
Why aren't the candidates talking about Afghanistan? Ignoring this 'political tar baby' certainly won't make it go away.
And so it goes...
Richard
Remember the war in Afghanistan? Obama and Romney don’t seem to.
WaPo, 3 Aug 2012
There are still almost 80,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and each month brings a few dozen home in coffins — more than 2,000 since 2001. Hundreds more arrive on medical evacuation flights, many of them without a limb. The war will cost taxpayers more than $100 billion this year. The Taliban, which enjoys sanctuary in nuclear-armed Pakistan, continues to conduct devastating attacks on the Afghan government and the civilian population.
But you wouldn’t know any of it from listening to President Obama and Mitt Romney on the campaign trail. They may not agree on much, but when it comes to the decade-old conflict, they have adopted the same strategy on the stump: Say as little as possible — sometimes not a word — and quickly change the subject.

Why are they not talking about it? Because it does not benefit them. They are POS politicians IMHO.

To expand on Brush Okie's post, in the eyes of the MSM Afghanistan is "Bush's War." While he was President it advanced their anti-Bush agenda to focus on collateral casualties, young American Soldiers and Marines with horrific burns, TBI, amputations, crying mothers and widows, etc., and they were prolific in their coverage of tragedy and heartbreak.
But once BHO was inaugurated these tragic stories became strangely scarce. In fact most war coverage seemed to dry up. It was now an unpleasantness that might dim the shining star of the President they helped to create. The big war news stories from OEF after the election were the Rolling Stone piece that skewered McChrystal and, as mentioned above, the death of OBL.
In other words, they've turned it off, boys, shut it down. Yep, surprise, surprise as Gomer used to say, the MSM never really gave a sh*t about burned Marines or Soldiers with prosthetics or widows or crying moms unless it served their purpose...and their purpose was to defeat Bush and McCain.
Welcome to the world of Forgotten Warriors.
