"CAIRO (AP) -- Islamist candidate Mohammed Morsi declared victory Monday in Egypt's first free presidential election since Hosni Mubarak's ouster 16 months ago. But the military council that has ruled since the uprising issued an interim constitution just as polls were closing that gave the generals sweeping authority to maintain their grip on power and subordinate the nominal head of state..........."

So the MB guy wins - just as many of us thought - but the Military says "Not so fast, we're still going to run things."

The Egyptian Military still runs things. The military in Egypt is run like a business with the same perks as a corporation in this country. I guess the only exception would be the termination process if you Fxxk something up bad enough.

No-one ever got poor in Africa betting that things would get worse rather than better. Things have got progressively worse since decolonisation in all African countries, except for Botswana. Botswana had the great good fortune to find the worlds biggest diamond deposits just after independence. It has a tiny population, and the diamond giant De Beers has effectively calling the shots there. This means that Botswana is the only country in Africa that is not submerged in corruption and crime. Every other country is either a failed state, or as near to it as there is no difference. Liberia, where American slaves returned to turn into a new paradise a few hundred years ago is a basket case who lately asked fellow African countries to pay for their elections. The Arab Spring will confirm the backward gallop to barbarity that Africa specialises in. Egypt is just one of the big ones, so is more visible.
