NYC Principal Bars Students from Singing "God Bless Usa" at Graduation

Think this maggot "principal" will get fired or get a medal. It is New York...

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/06/10...est=latestnews

A New York City principal has pulled the plug on patriotism by preventing students from singing "God Bless the USA" at their graduation.

The decision has sparked fireworks at a school filled with proud immigrants.

Greta Hawkins, principal of PS 90, the Edna Cohen School, will not allow kindergarten students to belt out the beloved Lee Greenwood ballad, also known as "Proud to be an American," at their moving-up ceremony.

Five classes spent months learning the patriotic song, which skyrocketed in popularity after the 9/11 attacks and the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

It was to be the rousing finale of their musical show at the June 20 commencement. The kids, dressed up for their big day, would wave tiny American flags -- which, as the lyrics proclaim, "still stand for freedom."

But Hawkins marched in on a recent rehearsal and ordered a CD playing the anthem to be shut off, staffers said. She told the teachers to drop the song from the program.

"We don't want to offend other cultures," they quoted her as explaining

Wow.

I can't believe some of the shit that comes out these days. We spend so much time focused on everyone else, and so little time focused on the core values of America.

This is a prime example of what will ultimately lead us to our own demise.

I agree, it tears at the very fabric that is America.

That being said, I would have picked a different song. Don't get me wrong, I cry at that Lee Greenwood song just like everyone else.

How about "The Star Spangled Banner"? Kids sing it, automatically the audience gets up and starts to sing it as well. Sounds like a win, win to me.

Before anyone beats me up on this, I repeat, I am not bad mouthing Lee Greenwood. Also, my scenario would never work for the same reasons the Lee Greenwood song got yanked.

A federal and State funded school not desiring to offend other cultures by playing a pro-America song?

Sorry, had to say it out loud just to make sure I was reading it correctly.

As a Western New York State resident, I am offended my state tax dollars are being funneled to NYC schools by way of Albany. I am equally offended my Federal taxes are supporting 'this school' in particular.

It is a simple fact of gratitude. If you are unable to realize and understand the privilege of living in the rare miracle that is the United States of America, you will never appreciate it.

The scourge of the entitlement mentality wears many faces.

The Internationale

Bet she has a CD of The Internationale and other similar songs that she listens to while going to and from her worker people funded job.

Sounds a lot more complicated than how Fox News chose to present it.

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/s..._content=Local

Seems like a fairly toxic work environment complicated by the principal's personal religious beliefs (against any national symbols such as pledges, etc) and has been festering for awhile now.

And so it goes...

Oh, yeah. Right

Oh, Yeah. Right. Not age appropriate!

"......Department of Education spokeswoman Jessica Scaperotti gave The Post an explanation staffers said they never heard — that Hawkins found the lyrics “too grown up” for 5-year-olds.

The song starts: “If tomorrow all the things were gone, I’d worked for all my life. And I had to start again, with just my children and my wife, I’d thank my lucky stars, to be livin’ here today.”

Scaperotti said the department supports the principal’s decision. “The lyrics are not age-appropriate,” she said.

But Justin Bieber’s flirty song about teen romance, “Baby,” was deemed a fine selection for the show. Hawkins had no problem with 5-year-olds singing lines such as, “Are we an item? Girl, quit playing.”....................."

First off her ass should be out in the street for being in charge of the school and only finding out what songs were playing in the program after many weeks of practice.

There's no silver lining in this one, Richard.

She's a Jehovah's Witness. They can declare no sovereignity to any Country, only to God. They don't believe in any kind of 'pledge' or swearing to a man made entity....they do not allow their members to join the military.

Very strange cult......they come to my door all of the time....

She is ovelaying her personal beliefs upon that school and should be sued for it.

This has nothing to do with 'culture'...she is lying.

Very eloquently said.

Having pride in our great country is always age-appropriate.
