American Chapel - St Paul's Cathedral, London

I saw a report on this on the morning news reporting of the current celebrations going on in London for Elizabeth II's 60th year as Monarch and thought it deserved a mention here. I've visited St Paul's a couple of times to view certain artwork but missed this one - it won't be missed on my next visit.

The pics are from the Roll of Honor which sits in a glass enclosed case in the apse at the front of the American Chapel which is located behind the main altar in St Paul's. Every day of the year, a member of the church's clergy turns to a new page in the book so that the names can be read by that day's visitors and never forgotten.

Richard

Inscribed in this Roll of Honour are the names of those Americans serving with the Canadian, British and United States Armed Forces who gave their lives while enroute to or while stationed in the United Kingdom. It also includes those members of units permanently based in the United Kingdom who made the supreme sacrifice between D-Day and VE-Day.

I really blew it when I went on my one and only leave to London from Germany in 1957, wish I knew about it then.........

Thumbs up

Thanks Richard. My first born married a Brit, and now lives not far from Dover. She will be visiting us in a few days, and I will share this with her. Our next visit to England will include a visit to St. Pauls.

Do you happen to have a relative in that list, Richard?

My Mother-In-Law's first husband was in the 101st and died jumping into Normandy on D-Day.

And so it goes...

Ah, OK. I was referring to the names on the "H" list.
