Iraq vet brutalized over guns in D.C.

It's a damn shame that a veterans call for help results in a SWAT team showing up at his front door.

I've always respected LEOs and still do,in fact my grandson is one here in Louisanna, but I can't understand how something like this could happen........ I taught SWAT officers were better trained than how this group responsed,at least the way it's been reported....... Do we have any SWAT guys that can defend how this went down like it did..........

Not defending this behavior, but we don't know what the police were told by the VA operator. Sounds like the VA operator made several very wrong calls.

Under any account - DC is simply out of control (as are Chicago, New York, Maryland and other "Occupied Territories". Time to take it back folks....

I've read, and re-read that article several times and have no problem calling bullshit.

There are HUGE gaps missing from this story - beginning with what was actually said when he called the Crisis Center... at midnight....about his bad dreams and why he can't sleep... He goes to great lengths speaking to the author about "still looking for IED triggenmen" , "dreams of seeing my own dead body" and how he would zip tie haji's - and then this somehow turns into a 2nd Amendment issue for the author.

From a LEO standpoint (IMO) this had nothing to do with guns at all - you don't put together a major warrant/barricade operation together drawing Patrol/SWAT/Bomb Squad/Negotiators resources (on overtime) at 4AM simply because Mort Fucking Meek has a few unregistered firearms - that does not happen.

My sense here is the police were responding to his apartment at the request of the Citys Mental Health Catchment to serve a voluntary or involuntary mental health commitment relative to whatever statements were made (and documented) to the Crisis call taker - but without knowing what the other 7 charges were, its all a guess. (Funny they wern't mentioned in the article)

What I can tell you is that in this major metroploitan city, in large areas, EVERYBODY has guns that are unregistered, stolen, or their just holdin for their play cousin. And because of that fact, NO LEO that I know of gives a rats ass if John Q Citizen has a firearm that hes/shes was juuuuuuuuust getting ready to register in their home for protection.

This is the kind of thing that one would expect to happen in some oppresive nation across the globe, not here. Seems to have been some very overzealous individuals involved starting with the lady at the VA. I thank God that I do not live in such a place, seems fitting for our politicians though to live in such a cesspool. Somebody needs to be looking into this injustice. When was reason thrown out the window?
