Pigeon Hunters Blast Animal Rights Drone from the Sky

For some reason, this sruck me as hilarious:

http://www.takepart.com/blog-series/...s-drone-planes

An Illinois-based animal-advocacy group called SHARK (Showing Animals Respect and Kindness) recently planned to disrupt a South Carolina pigeon shoot by using a remote-controlled drone copter to film the pointless and cruel event.

SHARK President Steve Hindi told The Times and Democrat that he and his group were just about to launch the Mikrokopter when a lawyer and the police tried to stop them. The police claimed to represent the privately owned plantation where the shoot was set to take place.

"It didn't work; what SHARK was doing was perfectly legal," Hindi said in a news release. "Once they knew nothing was going to stop us, the shooting stopped and the cars lined up to leave."

SHARK decided to send the drone up anyway.

"Seconds after it hit the air, numerous shots rang out," Hindi said. "As an act of revenge for us shutting down the pigeon slaughter, they shot down our copter."

Hindi claims that the shooters hid in trees and "fled the scene on small motorized vehicles."

Once shot, the helicopter came to rest on the side of the highway. Hindi estimates that the helicopter suffered about $300 worth of damage. He plans to press charges and is undaunted by the attack. "We're already making plans for a considerable upscaled action in 2013," said Hindi.

If you're going to fly with the pigeons, you may as well expect to be shot down like one too.

This was brilliant by the hunters. Simple and effective.

Shark

Maybe the shooters needed larger caliber rounds as the "camera - copter" wasn't annihilated...

Remedial in the vulnerable points; one # 7-1/2 to the transmission....

It's a good thing the hunters didn't employ the Wild Weasel concept - nail the controlling site.

Damage versus destruction is probably just the difference between 20 gauge dove hunters and 12 gauge duck hunters...now, a 10 gauge goose gun would probably vaporize that pesky little drone.

Next thing you know shooting a drone over your private land will be classified a hate crime.

If they don't knock politely they're fair game. Lots of potential counter-wimp drone stuff out there...

Very interesting...thank heaven these drones were't prevalent when I was a kid...our Estes model rocket experiments might have been converted to ground to air devices.

Still remember that feeling when the parachute finally popped on one of the more high performance models and you had to chase that parachute for what seemed like miles.

Well

I hope SC LEO's braced every small motorized vehicle in that section of the state. We should spare NO expense. After all, it's for the pigeons!

P.S. . . . heeeeeey man, nice shot.

Good post. Found it funny too. If it had been me I'd probably have used a semi-automatic 12 guage with #4 buckshot.
