That looks like a Red Hartebeest, and I am sure it was a mistake on both the bike riders as well as the antelopes side. The Hartebeest is one of the quickest running African antelope. Although blessed with being fleet of hoof, the Hartebeest is an exceedingly stupid animal. Not only is it stupid, but it is also very arrogant. It knows it is the fastest animal around, barring the cheetah, it will allow hunters to approach without having to stalk, because it knows it can outrun the hunter anytime. It still has not come to terms with the rifle, which has been thinning its ranks for three hundred years. This buck saw a man and knew it could easily get in front of him, but did not count in the ten speed gear feature of the mountain bike. For once the buck won, but its arrogance has cost it dearly in the past. Southern Africas most common place names contain Hartebeest. The country used to be swarming with them, but today, they are quite rare. The other less-arrogant species of buck have survived better.
