This seems like good news, but can we trust them?

QUOTE
Under an agreement reached in direct talks in Beijing last week, North Korea has agreed to allow the return of International Atomic Energy Agency nuclear inspectors, as well as to implement a moratorium on long-range missile tests, nuclear tests, and nuclear activities at Yongbyon, including uranium enrichment activities, the State Department said. In return, the United States will provide North Korea with a major food aid package

I'm unsure how optimistic I am about this, I don't really have faith that they will hold up to their end of the agreement, I hope that's not naive of me. I just have this feeling that this aid package that we send will not be reciprocated with support in the endeavor.

Just my humble 2 cents,

Tweeder

Trust, in international politics, is a facade. Like with everything else, it should be a "prepare for the worst and hope for best" type deal.

What I would like to read are the specific terms of the agreement. Be nice to know exactly what "our representatives" agreed to, IMHO.

Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it

Neville Chamberlain, 1938:

Quote:
The settlement of the Czechoslovakian problem, which has now been achieved is, in my view, only the prelude to a larger settlement in which all Europe may find peace. This morning I had another talk with the German Chancellor, Herr Hitler, and here is the paper which bears his name upon it as well as mine.

...

My good friends, this is the second time in our history that there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And now I recommend you to go home and sleep quietly in your beds.

Major Food Aid?

Major food aid? I wonder what the agreement was to oversee the distribution of the food?

I think the usual route for NK is straight to the military kitchens.

How many times did President Clinton fall for this in the 90's?
