Has anyone done a VA Construction Loan?

This may be a more general Army question, but I was looking for some no nonsense answers. My wife and I are looking to buy a plot of land in PA. Looks like I will be at this base for the long run. We really want to build a decent post and beam home. I have doing some research on VA construction loans, wanted to know if anyone has done this, and what the ups and downs might have been. If any. Or is this just a terrible idea? Thank you.
