Super Bowl Ads

Its too bad that Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep did not include a big thank you to the tax payers of this country for keeping them afloat. Their Super Bowl ad gave me me the impression they did it all on their own. Detroit is back alright but they hardly did it on their own. Clint Eastwood must need work pretty bad in order to have appeared in that ad. General Motors is coming under fire for their truck commercial which featured an armageddon type apocalypse in which the only surviving vehicles were GM trucks, I was struck by the fact that in real hard times Ford stood on their own, unlike GM and Chrysler.

Yep, I think the commercials this year were a huge letdown. There seemed to be some kind of grand, larger than life approach mixed with a this is what freedom and recovery is all about (the GE commercial with hope and jobs for all).

Come to think of it the half time show followed this theme as well, a Roman empire approach, almost draconian with dark overtones, yet somehow all were happy and dancing under those conditions.

I did like the dog PTing to chase the VW, but this was an exception to what seemed to be a product based solution involving the sale of freedom through consumer purchases.

I don't know. Maybe I am over analyzing here...

I rank this crop of ads among the worst for a Super Bowl.

The winners received $88K....the loser $44K

Yup...the game of the common man.

Didn't any of the pre-game crap or the whole game when it finally started. The commercials I saw were underwhelming.
I did see Gen Odierno getting interviewed on FOX.

The Chrysler (UAW) ad narrated by Clint Eastwood pissed me off.

A forced taxpayer buyout ending in a $1.3B loss to FIAT....considering the real Detroit declines into vigilantism (LINK ).....Yeah! Celebrate....

Chrysler is 60% owned by Fiat. No wonder she was speaking Italian...

Now if the UAW(who owns the rest of Chrysler) was making the commercial, they could show how spacious the trunk is by opening it and finding Jimmy Hoffa...

I think the UAW would have been happy about the The Center on Union Facts commercial that ran

But that wasn't in Italian.

Americas halftime

It's a real shame to see someone as iconic as Clint Eastwood talking about "Americas Halftime" with regards to the Chrysler Corp............particularly, since Fiat, a foreign auto manufacturing company owns over 58% of Chrysler. What exactly happend to all of that bail out money they accepted to stay in business as an american auto manufacturer? Sort of makes me wonder about Clint's patriotism ........or is he really just another stupid actor that believes money automatically translates to education!

Stupor Bowel ads - yet another reason to not watch any of the on-going, overly-hyped string of professional sports foofarahs designed to fleece the fans. (MOO and YMMV)

We watched Moneyball and enjoyed olive oil toasted California sourdough bread topped with an Italian tomato bruschetta and pesto along with a nice bottle of 1999 Grgich Hills Cabernet - I don't know why people think of it as an Academy Award winning film, but we enjoyed it in the same way we enjoyed The Rookie, Invincible, Remember The Titans, Hoosiers, etc.

Doesn't sound as if we missed much.

And so it goes...

But how are we to boost the economy if you don't buy crap made in exotic Asian socialist paradises or failed Mediterranean socialist states (and the Cabernet doesn't count)?

Oh...and HERE is an archive of past Super Bowl ads...(Go to "Video"and select decade)

GM trucks survive the apocolypse? They can't even survive the free market.

Chrysler's Detroit comeback ad filmed in New Orleans and L.A.

Detroit ‘Comeback' Ad Filmed in New Orleans, L.A.
Not Detroit.

One of the most popular Super Bowl advertisements last night was the Chrysler ad featuring Clint Eastwood, titled “Halftime in America.”

The spot is supposed to be encouraging, as it focuses on the resilience of Detroit. “It’s halftime. Both teams are in their locker room discussing what they can do to win this game in the second half,” Eastwood says in the spot. “It’s halftime in America, too. People are out of work and they’re hurting. And they’re all wondering what they’re going to do to make a comeback. And we’re all scared, because this isn’t a game. The people of Detroit know a little something about this. They almost lost everything. But we all pulled together, now Motor City is fighting again.”

But contrary to what the might ad suggest, the spot was actually filmed in New Orleans and Los Angeles. “Yes, part of it was filmed in New Orleans . . . and some was filmed in various parts—such as Los Angeles,” Dianna Gutierrez said. She specifically points to the tunnel scenes as being taken at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, while the stadium shots were in New Orleans.

Asked whether any part of the ad was filmed in Detroit, Gutierrez said that previously taken footage from various parts of the Motor City was used. No image of Detroit was shot for the specific use in this ad.
