Massage: It does more than just feel good

Thought this may be of interest to some of you...
"Massage also seemed to help cells recover by boosting amounts of another protein called PGC-1alpha, which spurs production of new mitochondria — tiny organelles inside cells that are crucial for muscle energy generation and adaptation to endurance exercise."

thanks for the link.

All I know it really promotes lymphatic drainage, stretches out the muscles and clears out the knots leading to a healthier body.

Sports teams pay 6 figures for Massage Therapists for a reason...

My cousin here in Dallas regularly works on pro athletes. Though she is not on with a team and far from 6 figures she does pretty good. Not to mention we've all benefited from a few tickets to games here and there. At times she will be flown out to off season training camps by the players she works on, so she went to Puerto Rico for a couple weeks. The player also bought an extra ticket so my sister went along. She ws off sight seeing and shopping until it came time for the athletes massage. Great way for someone to make money once they recieve their license, even working her own schedule around her kids.

Mostly she works on a couple of the Cowboys some of the Rangers and occasionally a Stars player.

I myself regularly get massage about every other week. It can be expensive but I found a few chinese masseuse who are pretty cheap and can read a body like a road map. And then I alternate once or twice a month with deep tissue massage. I consider it part of my overall health care treatment.

Finally something I can comment on that I know about from a practitioner standpoint.

Massage, when done correctly promotes all kinds of healthy effects. Lymphatic drainage, reduction of scar visibility, increased flexibility, increased circulation, when used as a supplement to physical therapy it can absolutely speed up the healing cycle, etc.

It's not all spa massage. Though, don't get me wrong I thoroughly enjoy a good spa massage.

The guys my husband works with think he's lucky to live with his own personal massage therapist until he explains to them that Sports Massage and Neuromuscular are very rarely enjoyable, though much more beneficial to what ails him.
